I have hair with a teeny bit of natural wave that that frizzes easily. Unfortunately, none of these attributes can be cut or styled to look nice---just a halo of frizz with hair going every which way. Long, long ago I used at home straightening which was like a permanent process and it never really made any difference. I've had Japanese Hair straightening (Bio-Ionic products) in a salon 3 times at $300-400. However, it amounted to once a year, not every other month. I still have to blow dry to straighten but the first two times I had it done, it seemed to "humidity proof" my hair. It was so nice to be able to wear it down and straight instead of in a pony tail all summer! However, the third time I had it done (same stylist & product) she goofed it up and ruined my hair. It feels like it was permed as soon as it gets wet and turns into a tangled mass that is difficult to comb even with a wide tooth comb and conditioner. It has no "body" and did nothing to "humidity proof" my hair either. When I complained to the stylist, she blew me off. I went to the salon management and they made her redo the top and sides of my hair where it was the worst. It didn't make much difference. I think it is just ruined and will have to grow out. Does anyone know of a salon Japanese straightening product that gets good results on very frizzy hair? I would like to try another salon that uses a different product.

My hair has gotten dry and looks and feels like straw when I get up in the morning and I thought it had gotten thin. Not a pretty sight! Because of all the health problems I've dealt with this past year, I haven't had the time or ambition to do anything about it. Until this week. I made an appointment for a perm and asked if meds could have any thing to do with that. She said absolutely. (I had made a note to ask my doctor when I see him again in January.) I'm taking a blood pressure pill, a blood thinner, and the hormone pill, all new to me. I was wrong about the thinning; she remarked as she was cutting my hair that it is definitely not thin, but still very thick! Yay! She gave me a good haircut so I still have some fullness, and a soft perm, It looks good, but of course I can never make it look that good. I'm going to try the coconut oil and see if that helps. I've no idea whether has to do with tipping, just my subjective spontaneous thoughts I was cleaning houses too in my youth(interesting how all these random jobs enrich one's experience), I know what a hard labor it is, and I forgive my cleaning lady driving me nuts with coming whenever she pleases, etc, because she's a nice person and a good cleaning lady and we grew attached. And of course I give her/her helpers Christmas gift and Easter gift yet a great stylist-it's a level or artistry there. it's rarer. I embarrassed myself once by kissing a hand of my previous hair stylist in NYC(the one who recommended the current salon)...I don't know what I was thinking, I was just so happy and grateful to him I took his hand and kissed it. He looked very touched but very overwhelmed. The public was slightly puzzled)) I like my cleaning lady but I'm not kissing her hand when overcame by emotion)) Her hands have less of this magic power of transformation. I had several great stylists in my life-I lost them only when either they moved or I moved away, and life taught me to ask for their reference on the next stylist wherever I go, in within their powers of course to give me that info. In NYC I had to take a train and then subway to get to my stylist Here, it's an hour drive without traffic and minimum two hours with. It's very tiresome to even to go there, to that salon of theirs. Yet I go(much rarer than I should, because far away, and to save money), and I tip, and as you already know- I sometimes do silly things like kissing a stylist's hand in public)) It's not like I'm crazy to tip, of course, it's a lot of money. And they're much more affluent folks, these salon owners, than I could ever be. Like, they don't need this tip to survive. At all. Not on this top of the mountain they were able to get to. But they're special kind of artists. That's how it is. Great stylist-whole different level. It's a very hard and often ungrateful job that takes years and passion to master and there's huge talent involved, in their case, a talent I was lucky to meet and am not about to loose until it depends on me It's customarily to tip here-okay then I'll tip It's not customarily to kiss one's hand)) especially-not for a woman to kiss a man's hand. In public. lol. I'm just chanelling my appreciation in a culture-appropriate way)))

I also have frizzy hair. I'd like to try keratin, but I don't think I understand how it works. I'll have to research. When I was in my 20s, I used to comb Toni home perm solution through my hair in the shower. It would come out straight without the frizziness and it also bleached my mousy brown hair so it appeared sunkissed. I only did it once every couple of years because it was so hard on my hair, but man did it look good when I did. Well, you all convinced me and I just cut a couple of inches off the bottom to get back to shoulder length. I'd been growing it out over the summer, I did love being able to pull it back into a loose messy bun, but this is overall a better look for me. I can still get it into a pony tail, so still have some options. On the subject of going short, for me, I try to remember to go slow. I often think I want really short, but sometimes just a couple of inches is enough of a change. If it's not, then I go shorter. I once went from really long to a pixie cut. Big mistake.
