Sounds like bleaching from something. You need to clean the area to get whatever it is that caused the bleaching out before you add anything or it may just bleach out too. Once you get it really clean, then you can try to dye it. I'd want to try something that gives you more control than a spray dye (which, short of an airbrush, I've not heard of). What comes to my mind would be a brown Sharpie or a fabric pen -- maybe a brush on fabric dye. For the Sharpie, you might find an office supply or art supply store that will sell colors individually, but otherwise, they come in the multi-color packs -- like crayons. Look in a crafts store for fabric pens. You want dye, not a paint that will sit on top of the carpet. Try it on a scrap or rag of white cotton fabric to test the color first, and if you're happy with that, I'd start as deep into the nap -- as close to the base as possible and go slow and easy. If the color isn't working, you can stop before you get to the surface. The pros probably have some other tools in their arsenal, but that's what I'd try first, especially if it is or will be covered by furniture. Good luck.

Carol, it was the Atrovent that did it. I am back on the Albuteral, but I am afraid to use it. I was switched after a reaction to the Albuteral. I only need it a couple of times in the spring and fall. The insurance companies won't let me have anything else because I didn't go to the ER when I had my reaction to the Albuteral, and don't consider hair loss a good enough reason with the Atrovent. I have the Albuteral filled, but haven't really needed it, tho probably should have a couple of times. The Albuteral will also cause me to loose my hair, but I always just figured it was a winter shed when I would have a lot extra in the shower drain. I have longish straight hair. I only get it cut 2-3x a year usually, and just started dying it again, because my grays are getting out of control. I buy a demi-permanent dye from my salon for only $10 (a little different from a semi perm. but fades out over time the same way), and do it myself at home right after I get it cut.

I know those who are gray might disagree but ......you can look good with gray no doubt, but you do look "older." While in a career, this might not be the best approach. Whether I am gray or not (I am) this makes me sad and angry regardless of whether it's true or not. Like so many other things, when will it change? Part of the power of change lies with us and the willingness to plow ahead and allow visual aging to actually happen. I colored my hair forever and just got sick of the constant upkeep to say nothing of the constant chemical exposure. I wear makeup every day, I style my hair pretty much every day, I work out, I care about the clothes I wear (although I'm far from a fashionista) and take care of my skin, hair, nails etc. so obviously am not saying we shouldn't care about our looks. Hair color is just another way to enhance or change our looks but NOT using it should not keep someone from a desired career any more than choosing not to wear nail polish or mascara should. When are we (people in general but women far more) ever going to be valued for what we bring to the table in talent and experience?
