Cracked heels - why only women?
Comments (22)When I'm in the high desert, my heels crack even though I wear socks day and night, (so it's not UV light). When I'm in a more humid climate, the thick skin and cracking gradually reduce. Anything greasy helps. I use lanolin. I still have to scrape the thick callous off at least once a week when I'm in the high desert, or it will crack, grease or no. When I have a painful crack in my heel, what heals it quickly is to simply cover it with tape or a bandaid. I wash my feet, dry them (so the tape will stick), stuff a tiny bit of greasy stuff inside the crack, such as Chapstik or lanolin, and then put tape or a bandaid over it. Then I wear socks, of course. Within 8 hours it stops hurting, sometimes within 1 hour. Tape works even without stuffing a greasy dab in the crack, but not quite as quickly. Sometimes in the driest weather when cracks seem inevitable, I tape my heels preventively and it does work. My father used to get visibly thick cracked heels, in a humid climate in the US, but he never complained of them hurting, and i never saw him limp from it (so it's not only women, though it's true I've only ever had the discussion come up with woman friends or sisters)....See MoreBill V...house settling, grout cracking
Comments (4)I was about to ask this very question--except in the kitchen forum. Newly built house (in 2 months now) and the bottom of the tile back splash's grout (where it meets the granite) is cracking. I was wondering if there was a remedy. So we should use caulking there (in kitchen) too? Does it matter whether it's already been sealed or not? Thanks!...See Morecracked heels, arghhhhh!
Comments (36)Glenda, buy yourself a Ped Egg. I used mine today because tonight I wore stockings for the first time in a couple of years. I went out to dinner and wore a new dress and I had to wear stockings. Funny thing, I met my friend at the restaurant and the parking lot was full so I parked in the lot next door. After dinner it was dark when we left so he walked me to my car. I was parked next to an alley and it was kind of dark. While we were standing there talking, a police car drove through the lot. The officer must have seen us walking in the alley and came through to see if we were doing anything illegal I guess. Maybe he was just checking to see if things were OK....See MoreNew home, Cracked London Sky Quartz
Comments (15)While I'd have to see it in person to be sure, I'm betting on fabricator error here. ci_lantro probably isn't far off. There is inadequate support at the cantilever which is causing the engineered stone to self destruct. Surprisingly, the adhesive at the miter joint is stronger than the material, but mean ole' Mr. Gravity's relentless pulling from the center has caused the end to fail naturally starting at the outermost point. Gravity pulled then hit a stress riser in the miter cut, causing the perpendicular crack in front of the glue joint. See any percussive marks that could have caused that? Me neither. You could theoretically make this disappear, but you can't stop the laws of physics. It's a do- over. sherylnery, without a properly designed and fabricated replacement, here is your future: Probably the same thing, only the adhesive failed first. This is exactly why Cambria contacted me when they saw this. I can't find DuPont's fabrication instructions online, but this is from page 22 or so from Caesarstone and it's all the same stuff: The use of 3⁄4” material requires the use of a minimum 3⁄8” thick plywood sub top if the edge detail is 1 1⁄4” or greater. Some types of cabinets may require the use of 3⁄4” plywood for European-style frames and supports. I'm betting you've got 2cm with a mitered edge larger than 1 1/4" and no required support. The builder or you are replacing this top. It'll be you if you don't escrow the money....See Moreteacats
