When you feel like a new style, where do you all get your ideas from?

Hi Cremin,

There are magazines for hairstyles that are a good place to start. I also like catalogs, you'll find a lot of realistic pictures there.

Sometimes the stars have extensions and your seeing their best, so they might look a little different than my hair and yours.

Try and find pictures that resemble your hair. Meaning is it thick,fine,straight,thin, etc. Also, different colors will make a syle look different.

Have fun with your new do! Find a sylist that is current in trends if you want trendy.

If I see a great hairstyle in a magazine (US magazine has a lot of good ones), I will cut it out and keep it in a folder for later. Most of the time if I don't bring a picture to the hairdresser, she doesn't understand how I want my hair. (Of course, even if I do bring a pic they don't always do a great job, but at least they have an idea.)

You mention that you cannot use tall supports. Perhaps the following easy method which I have been trialing with success might be worth considering. For each tomato plant purchase 2 ten foot lengths of 1/2" PVC pipe available at plumbing section of box stores. Now form two hoops next to each other with these, spaced 8" apart, planting ends firmly in ground. Position one tomato plant at bottom of a hoop so that it will grow toward the sun. As it grows weave the new growth between and around the two hoops, securing branches with single-wrap velcro as needed. The velcro is also available at box stores. Beneath the hoops you will still have some growing space for crops such as herbs and lettuce. The whole set-up is sturdy and attractive. I take the time to quickly paint each pipe with dark green acrylic paint so the white piping does not stand out in color. Easy to take apart and store. The pipes will last for many, many years. Sorry, I do not post pictures on GW, but hopefully you can follow my directions.

Welcome to the world of gardening! You've gotten some good ideas. Here are a few other things to consider. For color Katie ruella is a good little border plant. It's a dwarf and comes in purple, pink and white and will bloom in just about any conditions. Mexican Oregano blooms almost year round in those same conditions for me. Texas Betony is good. I see you already have Mealy blue sage that seems to be liking it there. There are other sages to consider. Also ornamental grasses such as the purple fountain grass you already have. Some grasses grow nicely under trees such as inland sea oats for me For something with a little height consider some of the Texas native understory trees. I think Possomhaw holly does very well in the Houston area. It has bright red berries in fall and winter. Mexican red bud stays small for me and blooms heavily in the spring. Anacacho Orchid Tree is a lovely little white blooming understory tree that butterflies love. You may have to make your bed a little wider to accomadate all the nice things you'll find to grow there. Sorry I don't have any experience with Virginia sweetspire. Beauty berry might be nice in the corner. It gets very large here in San Antonio in full sun, but in part sun would be smaller. Check out some of the plants on the site linked below plus a local privately owned nursery would be able to make more suggestions. Thanks everyone for your insights. Over the last 29 years, between DH & I, we've had 10 Fords. Every one has lasted 10+ years and the lowest mileage one we had when traded was 135,000. I think this 2002 Taurus is just a "dud" but I've had 3 other Taurus' since 1986 & had excellent records. I had a 1989 Ford Explorer that ran over 200K miles & 13 years. I sold it for $2,000 when I bought the current Taurus and some college kid is probably still delivering pizzas in it! And the love of my life was my 1983 red Thunderbird - DH and I traded it back and forth for 13 years, until our 2nd son was born and the back seat was way too small for 2 car seats. My mechanic gave me a good insight on the "gas guzzler" Crown Vic when I discussed with him what he would buy if he were looking for a used car and had less than $10K to spend. He said he'd go for a full size sedan becuase they still get around 20 mpg, and cost around &8 to $10K. If I kept the car for 6 years, and gas even went back to $4 a gallon, I'd still spend way less total than buying a small car for $14K or more. Plus with 3 unusually tall boys, a small car just won't fit us. He said his top pic for a used sedan would be a Nissan Maxima but it's just not big enough for us. I am very hard on cars - I only live 3 miles from work and most days drive 10 miles or less of 'stop at every corner' type driving. That's really hard on a car, so if my Fords have lasted 135,000 or miles or more, it's like double that in highway miles. I will most likely buy another Ford, mostly because of my good experience up to now, and also because Ford is in better financial condition and will be around to honor any warranty. I know intellectually that I should get rid of this car before it blows, but emotionally I'm just not sure I am ready to spend the $$ on a "new" car. Every time I say I'm going to look at cars, I come up with an excuse not to. I just took 2 weeks off work and had several days with no plans, but never managed to make it to look at cars. I live right in the city & near a major business corridor with 5 or 6 dealerships in a 5 mile stretch, but still can't seem to make it over there!

From what I understand, the outdoor heaters are propane. They burn clean? Some restaurants here have back outdoor patios that use them. Enclosed by four walls but outside. Seems ridiculous to heat outside and not necessarily legal in plain sight. They do radiate downward. We have a fire pit in the mountains. (wood fired) Similar radiating heat. 40ºF but blazing warm sitting around close. Night sky. Priceless. I read today that NYC may allow them. To extend the outdoor eating season on closed off streets. Bubble tents and mini greenhouses are gaining popularity. We will not be restaurant dining anytime soon. No need or desire even before covid. For those that do, the aerosols will be killed anywhere near that heat source. May be the carbon footprint if propane is traveling a long distance. Fuel choices are chosen based on availability. Natural gas is a direct line here. Sits and waits until we need it. Not traveling far. Our best choice. I don't like that our local farm share is not taking back their expensive insulated bags that were such a good system pre covid. So easy to clean them. Even an extra zippered bag foil inside. So frustrating. But we will reuse them for years if they will not take them back in the future. We are evironmentalist fence sitters. I need both sides of the arguments and the impact studied. We need lives living with commerce. And safe. Wake-up call about excess.

I get my ideas from the person who cuts my hair. He knows that some styles just won't work with my hair type or face shape. If you find a good hairdresser, they are full of great ideas.

I cut a picture of Meg Ryan out of magazine, told the hairdresser I want my hair cut like that, she insisted she couldn't do it, I had to have a body wave first. I had the perm and cut done, but my hair was badly damaged. It formed knots every night,it hurt to brush or comb my hair. I went elsewhere, had my damaged hair treated with a restructuring treatment, then cut short and straight. I still carry the picture of Meg, but I'll never have hair like hers. Sigh. . .

The best tips I've ever heard about chosing hairstyles are 1). When you find a pic of a cut you like, cover the face and look at the hairstyle AGAIN. Many times, you will be surprised that you don't like it as much! 2). Pull your hair back completely off your face and look in a mirror. Use lipstick or an eye pencil and trace the shape of your face right on the mirror! Try to find a style that fits YOUR face shape. Those are the styles that will truly look the best on YOU. If you find a pic, trace the shape of the face and see if it matches your face shape.

You know those hair do's where the hair kind of poofs up on the top and the back, but is actually straight? Like a Heather Locklear look, I guess. How do they do that? Do they rat it, or do you get that look with mousse? I have long hair, past my shoulders and it is pretty thick and just hangs straight down. I want to get that "poofy look". How do I do that?

Re: those puffy hairdoos probably start with
a razor cut or "texturized" as the pros say...
then lots of artfull blowdrying with lots of expensive
product.

I have straight hair and one hairdresser
actually really thinned out the back crown area so
I would get the lift... then you can put some mousse
or what have you on the roots in the crown area and
you will get some help in that area. Cool trick.

Re: new "do"...

When I need a new idea, I try to pick a
very young stylist ! Maybe they don't give
me THE idea, but they do something different
enough to get me thinking.

Other than that, I have gone to a well-seasoned big
city hairdresser to bring me up-to-date when my style
was getting "old." They introduced me to texturizing.
