I have had my cluster growing for 5 years in the same pot , a van brake drum stacked on a column of brake rotors.. It bloomed and died back part way, sending out babies and then a year latter I had three babies bloom and I keep giving them away and weeding some out so they still have room to grow. I do need to put in some fresh soil. If you leave it outside as long as possible so it can get some late fall/ winter sun, it will turn a beautiful red. Every year I chance a freeze since it will take a light one. This spring it got snowed on. It did not like that. It didn't like the hail the year before either. BUt it has forgiven me , over and over for the abuse that I give it. It loves the winter sun. It just occasionally looks like it gets acne from unwanted frozen precipitation.

Clean every drain in your house using either vinegar, ammonia or a mild bleach mixture. Better yet the foam drain cleaners stick to the sides of the drains slowly breaking down what they are attracted to that you may not reach with just a sprayer after doing this once maintain with the previously mentioned. Another option is to use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar this will bubble the drains clean kind of fun to watch too. Do not forget your overflow drains I was amazed at how many bubbled out of one of my bathroom sinks. Your shower and bath overflow are important as well as under the rims of your toilets. The most important, the garbage disposer. I have been trying to make my husband understand the importance of the cat box being scooped daily he just rolls his eyes at me. I personally have developed allergies to the cats to the point that even vacuuming turns my face and neck all splotchy and irritated so I can not scoop the litter. I am tempted to buy those disposable surgical caps and dust mask and just do it myself. I know someone who uses it all over there ranch property to control flies. She also uses it internally to kill parasites. Maybe the addition of baking soda would reduce the smell that attracts them. No doubt that being corn based is a possible attractant. Corn is also a good mold media as well which might further attract fungus gnats. Good Luck, Cindi

JESS: Thank you for the pics. & neat info. about Badger .. I really enjoy learning about the animals in South Africa. One cup of chicken manure per bush is TOO MUCH. In a British rose forum, a lady burnt her roses by using chicken manure once a month. In my cold zone, I use chicken manure VERY SMALL amount when the temp is cool & rainy. Folks use Rose-Tone (has chicken manure) once a month for roses in pots. But that has only 1/6 chicken manure. I would use only 1/2 cup, 1 cup would be too salty. I killed a rose by mixing 1/2 cup of chicken manure in the planting hole. When chicken manure touches the root, it kills the root, best to dilute ONLY 1/2 cup with soil before spreading around the bush. If it is only showing up on his forehead and cheeks, it could be the shampoo. Try to find a shampoo without Sodium Laurel Sulfate. Difficult to find but they are out there. Does he wash his face with any other products? Something mild like Aveeno might be worth a try. I'd have a dermatologist check for rosacea, which is also accompanied by small broken blood vessels. Any product he is using could make rosacea worse. Even toothpaste has it and I realized recently that some of the other added ingredients in toothpaste was affecting my gums and the inside of my cheeks like a sloughing off of skin. I switched to a more 'regular' toothpaste without all the whiteners, etc and it stopped. Weird and creepy but that's what it was I think.
