If you don't know what a 'Brazilian Wax' is, google it. Make sure you aren't eating or drinking anything while you educate yourself.

I'll go first.

I've had it done twice. Wish it was less painful, it will take me major amounts of guts to go back. The results feel great, and DH likes it too!

There is a salon in my town that has a few different options for waxing on their menu... They are: bikini, brazilian, and play boy.... I've done the bikini and the brizilian... The brazilian is basically anything between a regular bikini and everything(the playboy)... you can tell the technician how much you want off... I liked that the best.. I don't find that too painful... I was the one who posted the message about home waxing the underarms.. ouch.. that hurt way worse than the brazilian wax.. Nothing makes me feel prettier than having a brazilian wax. :)

I had RRD five years ago. I dug up approximately 16 roses. I did nothing to stop it early as I didn't recognize what it was that was affecting my roses. It appeared around July. I dug up the roses in November. I replanted the following spring, and the problem did not return. I actually did have a few bad leaves the next two years on some other nearby plants that were not dug out, as they were not nearly as badly affected. I would simply cut the suspicious looking growth out. None of these plants were removed, and are clean of RRD. My garden has been entirely clean of RRD now for about 3 years. I recommend that such growth be cut out as soon as it is seen, as pruning it out at the top may save the rose. It seems to start at the top and if given time will move into the bottom of the rose and grow into other branches that were not previously affected and then your rose bush is doomed. The medicine was harsh. I lost some great roses, and didn't really have the money to put toward getting roses of my choosing. I accepted donation replacements, and bought a few own root roses, and my rose garden is not what it had been. The main symptom was elongated leaves. An individual RRD leaf looked somewhat like a an individual marijuana leaf. ISU Extension Service examined my photos as well as someone else on this forum and both told me they believed it to be RRD. Iowa State University operates Reiman Gardens, which has a very large population of roses. ISU told me they did not know RRD had gotten as far north as where I am located in Iowa. But they contracted RRD that year at Reiman Gardens. They are about 130 miles away, but only about 44 miles to the south of us. This was Iceberg when infected by RRD. Ooh, Greening, you are good, lol! Congratulations! I had to laugh when I re-read this thread. I said I had 80 pots! Pshaw nothing! *I* was a rookie then too, lol! Last winter I dragged 243 pots into my garage. The year before it was 284, so I am getting better! I have made some progress, and I've been really, really good about not buying new stuff. But yes, I do still have some of those same plants that were in pots in 2005 still in pots. What can I say? I procrastinate. Although some of these are supposed to still be in pots - they are for my patio. I think I'm down to about 150 this year. I haven't counted yet - I do that when I bring them in. And I must add that many of these pots are little - 3 or 4 inches, so it's not quite as bad as it sounds. I don't think I will ever not have anything in pots for the winter. Even if I don't count my patio plantings, I will still always have something. I just know it. I won't even attempt not to, lol. :) Dee

I bought a condo before getting married. I bought my first condo (2bed/2bath) with the intention of getting a roommate to help with the mortgage. When we married, my husband already had a house, so I moved into the house, and we turned the condo into a rental. We had about $100 per month negative cash flow in the beginning. Many years prior to that, my then single husband bought a house in a suburb. Hated it, and bought another in the city and turned the suburban house into a rental. But, he remodeled the new house, ran out of money, rented out the house and he himself rented a small room to save money.... When he finally moved back into the newly remodeled home, he had many roommates to help with the finances. When we were first married, we built a mother in law apartment in the basement and rented that out. That helped with our expenses. We did not ask her to leave until my son was 2 years old. We then reclaimed the basement for ourselves. (You asked for stories and sacrifices...) We now have enough cash flow so not having rental income for a few months is not a big deal. This gives us the luxury of picking "good" tenants. We only pick tenants who are professionals with good jobs and stellar credit and rental record. The longest we have had vacant rental is about 3 months. We are also in an urban environment where many young professionals cannot afford to buy due to the housing price. Most houses in a suburban subdivision do not make a good rental, unless you can make the rent 1/3 or less than the monthly mortgage of buying the property. (now days, that may not be true because of the downpayment requirements have gone up for buying a home...) Like most everything else in real estate, it's location, location, location that determines the rentability, the amount of rent, the type of tenant etc. We have never needed to go to section 8 route. My condo is very close to the University and Medical school. We almost always have medical residents as tenants(currently dental student and the working spouse). We don't rent to undergrads. They have "no income" and do not qualify in our minds. Our suburban house is near many tech firms in the area, and we tend to get techies with well paying jobs living in the house. melle sacto, not only do you need to have enough money to get through prolonged vacancy, you need to be able to deal with unforseen emergencies quickly. These rentals are your investments. You don't want to do anything to devalue that investment. For example, we had a leak in a very old bathroom. We decided that it was a good time to update the bathroom rather than "patch" fix the bathroom when the tenants moved out. The tenants move out when they want to not when you have the money to fix the bathroom. Like any other business, you need to have available capital when you need it. In order to rent the property quickly, you need to make it look fresh with regular painting, yard maintenance, deep cleaning, etc etc. The most recent tenant turn over uncovered very old sliding glass doors that were not closing property due to age and settling etc. It was noticeable enough and would have detracted from the house from the potential tenants point of view. Again, we had to spend a few thousand $ to get them replaced. This is a regular part of being a landlord. We will probably get one more rental, either a duplex or a quadplex. (our next door neighbor probably has 10 houses/buildings or more) Anything larger than that, we are not willing to manage ourselves. We call trades people for just about everything that needs to be done. It is not worth doing it ourselves at this point. Initially, you will have to do everything yourselves, ie painting, yard work, cleaning, etc. If you and your husband are handy, you will spend less money versus calling someone in. Again, this is not on your schedule but the house's schedule. My brother has a dulplex that he rents out and also the house my parents willed to him. He too had to spend money when things happen. (both of our rentals needed new blower for the furnace this last winter.) We just laugh when these things happen.... Unlike calliope, I consider the risk I take with the rentals as a controlled risk. I actually think it is much less of risk than money I put in the stock market. However, a rental has little potential for huge growth as would in some stocks. To be a successful landlord, you also need to learn your market. In some markets, it is not a feasible business model. For example, I would not buy a rental in a rural area with high unemployment. But I would buy a rental in an urban environment with a large number of transient well paid professionals. Rental properties are a part of our entire portfolio along with other more and less risky things.

Just as our kids were arriving yesterday, my husband was taking the turkey out of the oven. The roaster pan was so full of drippings (I assume from the massive injection of creole butter) that it could not be removed from the oven without a huge mess. Personally, I would have used a baster to remove some of the 'juice' so it could be moved neatly but he streamed it all over the newly cleaned oven, across the floor and drenched the cabinet beneath the sink. What a mess to clean up with toddlers underfoot trying to greet grammy and pop pop!

That's what I hear... the lady who did my wax the first time told me she used to live and work down in the bahamas for 25+ years and some women had come to her for so long that they hardly had to have anything done anymore because the hair just wouldn't grown anymore.... so that's encouraging....IF you plan on doing it consitently over a long period of time.

I tried a simple bikini wax way, way back when. I did it myself and ended up with bloodly bruising. I was told later by someone that when it's done professionally, they can pull the skin tighter when they remove the wax strips and it minimizes the bruising. I've never had the courage and am fussy about who "goes there." I settle for a close, frequent, thorough shave with a Venus razor. Not the same as waxing for sure but I lack courage!

When I first had just a bikini wax done, I was told to leave my undies on and she just tucked the towel into the edge and got to the hair that way... i felt completely modest.. For the brazilian i had to have the panties off.. but i figured she'd done it a thousand times in the last 16 years she'd been doing it so who cares.. she was very professional and gave me lots of info on how to take care of the area, etc. I didn't bruise or bleed. .. it was sensitive for the rest of that same day... that's it.

Ouch! I bikini waxed alot eons ago but I've never had a brazilian! It's gonna take a whole lot of talking to me to get me to do it! My razor works wonders. It's not as 'nice' as a wax job but...

There must be an easier way... Shaving has drawbacks as well, bumps, has to be done frequently, though repeated shaving and the use of Bikini Zone shave gel and cream does help. Depilatories I imagine should not be used in this area. Does anyone know?

Sally you are a brave woman. Thanks for sharing.

Barnmom, (1) a good technician shouldn't cause those kind of injuries, and (2) long time ago some forum member told me about 'Poetic Wax' - its supposed to adhere to the hair, not the skin. I haven't tried it myself. BUT I wouldn't touch depilatories in that area - too sensitive.

And frankly, h*ll would freeze before I'd consider it.

I love it. He loves it. BUT I don't want someone else doing it for me, I use a venus razor and hedge clippers.

Okay, never had it done, but have been very interested in trying it. I think I will have to wait because I am going to have a baby in 6 weeeks. Not sure if you can wax while pregnant?! (Or as pregnant as I am anyways...) Now here is a question for you... I am all confused on what I should do for the delivery of the baby, as far as "down there" grooming goes. I can't even see down there anymore, a bit scared to use a razor right now...considering consulting DH, but not sure if I trust him using a razor down there either!!! LOL! Maybe NOW is the time for a wax!? Suggestions?

emmhip, the nurses will do it for you. Just be prepared for the itching as it grows back.

With DD 1 they didn't do any trimming down south when I went in to have her. I don't think a lot of Dr.'s do that much anymore. With DD 2 I had to have a C-section so they had to do a little trimming for that one.

I am getting braver and thinking of the Bikini wax. I have gone pretty bare before and liked it. BTW we just taught my grown up sis that you are supposed to do some grooming down there. I use my DH beard trimmers, even though he told me that they were for the beard not bush clippers;)

Just so you all know... the growing back after shaving sucks!! Waxing eliminates that irritation.. Bite the bullet and do it.. It will make you feel so pretty! and sexy!!!
For the preggo who posted... I was shocked after I had my baby and could finally see down there again... ack!! It was time to get out those hedge clippers.. hahahhahahahah.

Growing back after shaving isn't so bad with the use of Bikini Zone shave gel and the after shave cream. I have also used a no-shave-bumps cream I found in the mens' ethnic grooming products that helped. Frequent shaving is also helpful.

I mean do doctors and nurses care what is going on down there as far as grooming goes? They must see it all! A friend of mine had her DH give her a trim before going in to have a baby and he shaved a heart! I would never let my DH do that, I thought, how embarrassing! Still not sure if I should do any grooming before heading to the hospital... I don't think the nurses at the hospital I am going to do any. I think it's "come as you are." I can imagine a brazilian hurting pretty bad though. Would love to try it someday as shaving is such a pain.

My midwife obviously didn't care what I did with my hair down there, as she was the hippy type and didn't even shave her own legs... haha.. BUT... whenever I have to go to the GYN.. you better believe I do some grooming.. haha.. shrug.. i don't know.. i'm weird like that.. They've probably seen it all but I'd like for them to think I have good hygiene and all. I wouldn't worry about it if you're pregnant though.. I'm sure they understand.

I'm just glad that I come from the stone age when men appreciated a nice pelt on a woman. Girls who weren't as plush in thier nether regions actually envied those that were. How times have changed.

Does anyone else see the irony in the way that girls and young women today will walk around with dirty bra straps exposed, a muffin top rolling over their jeans and expose a crack to rival the worst plumber but are horrified at the idea of a stray hair peeking out of their panties?
