Lipstick recommendation?

Can someone recommend a good lipstick? I need something that colors dull lips well and has staying power. All my current lipsticks are matte and it seems like everyone is into glossy, right?

For lipstick staying power, use a light coat of powder on your lips before applying lipstick. If you like the color and want them glossy, a clear coat of gloss is perfect, or you can get the matching tinted gloss for your lipstick. Plain old Vaseline works as well as glosses too for a cheaper gloss.

Also, when your lipstick gets used up, dig the remaining lipstick out with a thin stick and mix it in a tiny container with a bit of Vaseline to make your own perfectly matched lip gloss.

No need to go out any buy any new lipsticks.

I have no colour in my lips. I use a hydrating, full colour lipstick, applied over a similar colour lipliner - with lips filled in - applied over a good lip cream/balm that does not have any form of an exfoliant. I will not use one of the "long lasting" lipsticks that are supposed to stay put for 8 hours as I find them very drying. I also do not suit gloss - whether it be on its own (lips too pale) - or a gloss lipstick. Somehow it makes me look somewhat "cheap" - and I am talking about a Cle de Peau Extra Silky Lipstick here - they cost about $60 - I tried it because the colour would work - after changing due to my very high body acid. I had to blot it a few times to remove the "shine". The lady I buy my cosmetics from was shocked at how bad the glossy look "looked" on my. Due to my colour changing problems, I have only one lipstick - not cheap - it is a Sisley. Chanel makes Hydrabase - I am in Canada so our Chanel is Made in France, not the U.S., but I understand that in the spring Chanel sold in the U.S. will also be made in France so pigments/formulations will be the same. So bottom line is make sure you suit the glossy look. My lipstick does not look "matte" as in the matte look, it just looks creamy - which is want I want. I would try out a few lines to find out one that looks the best on you. I did match the colour once to one made by a cheaper - but not that cheap - brand - but once applied my lips felt as if I had been eating greasy soup and crackers - that had dried on my lips. So back to my one and only lipstick. Filling in with the lipliner really helps hold the colour - of course best to find a moisturing l/l. I am nearly 60, but did not suit glossy lipsticks when I was 20.

MG potting soil is fine, but other mediums should added. I mix soils and non-soil-less mixes together. For my 2 Lipsticks, the soil consist of Miracle Gro, a handful of house plant soil, coarse sand, handful of peat, and Perlite. They hang in a west window, in the bathroom. Can't use a humidity tray when plants hang so 4 showers per day and daily misting increases humidity, (lipsticks need humidity) Lyssa, as long as your container has drainage holes, soil is well-draining, and watering isn't done too often, (daily, like some ppl tend to do,) there's no reason to worry about overwatering. To be honest, my lipsticks are watered when soil dries, but if you wait too long, they wilt or drop. Overwatering causes wilt and felled leaves too, so the best thing is to familiarize watering habits. Aside from using sand and perlite, both lipsticks are rootbound, so chances of overwatering are next to nil. If you worry about overwatering, use smaller pots. Lipsticks are more likely to bloom when roots are snuggly. Your lipstick will thrive in an east window, but lessens chance of flowering and sturdy foliage. Unless your plant is right against the pane and/or getting additional artificial light. Consider obsturctions like curtains, blinds and trees... Lipsticks are early bloomers..Once you see growth, start fertilizing. I alternate by using an All Purpose fert, then, the following month, Flowering fert. Herbs are difficult..they need fresh air and a good amount of sunlight, there's no comparison. If you've just started growing plants, don't count herbs. Since your leaves were soft brown, the soil wasn't being kept too dry. It's a good idea to check for insects. I'm not saying that's the problem, but one never knows unless they inspect plants regularly. Do you know what to look for? So far, saturating soil and removing dead foliage is a good start. Periodic spraying in sink or shower, or if you're into misting, helps with humidity, especially if the air in your house is dry. Good luck..Toni

"I was curious about the CG Outlast, but reviews I've read aren't very good. I don't like any product that's drying." I went and bought some after reading this thread. I was that excited about it (and I am completely out of Benetint as of this week). I put it on to try at home and it seems moister than Benetint and a bit heavier. The wand with the pointed tip made it easier to apply that the wide brush that comes with Benetint. It also seems to have a slight fruit flavor which is something I do not care for in a lip color. As of now, it has LASTED through a greasy dinner, several cigarettes smoked, and a dish of ice cream. I am impressed. A+++++++++ I guess I will know tomorrow if the product is drying to the lips. I do not think it will affect me as some users said the same about Benetint and I never found it to be a problem. I think that if your lips are already dry and chapped, that a tint or stain will make it more noticeable. That is all. One must make sure to exfoliate the lips before using or you will end up with red, stained, dry flakes around the lips. You don't have to buy any of that special lip exfoliator that they sell in department stores - just use your rinsed toothbrush after brushing and scrub the lips. One exciting thing about the Cover Girl Outlast lip stain is that it comes in many different shades. Benetint only came in one reddish shade. I chose the Mauve since I wear lip stain when not wearing eye make-up. If this CG Outlast turns out to be a great product for me, I may try the brown or red to go under lipstick. That way if my vivid, deep, lipstick wears off I still have some tint under it instead of pasty lips. In some of the reviews users wore lip gloss over it and the stain stayed and the lips were moister. One downside to CG Outlast lip stain, is that it is not a lip and cheek stain like Benetint is. I sometimes used Benetint as a sheer cheek stain and I can tell that Outlast will not work for this nor is it advertised as such. Another thing is that along with the cheaper cost there is less product, A bottle of Benetint lasts like forever.

Thanks so much everyone! I'm reading this instead of doing my statistics midterm...so maybe that's a thanks? Instead of a thanks! Ha ha! Anyway, this year's budget is about $2k which could stretch to cover new stairs or new railings but wouldn't extend to porching out the roofline unless I learn some carpentry skills really quick. I completely 100% agree that adding a porch over the front door would be amazing. I live in a rainy climate and it is so much more welcoming that way. I totally dream of a front porch so maybe I should look into making it happen. circuspeanut and GreenDesigns, thanks so much for your photoshops. I do love the longer hat! I think I may have made a mistake by making it so high contrast ... maybe a darker beige would be better than charcoal. I have an idea involving doing the porch and the hat in one color on vinyl shake, and leaving the bottom and the side the beige. Let me think on it...but don't let me photoshop it tonight! My midterm is due at midnight. Although I like colored trim, there is no way I would paint cheap vinyl trim, thereby removing its only bonus (low maintenance) but maybe I can go shopping and see if there are multi-colored trims available? I kind of like the look of a white trim with just a little black square around it. Very tailored. I'm mixed on the barn boards. I like the look of them online but am unsure if they fit with the decided charmlessness of my builder-grade beige vinyl -- I love them on houses with shakes! Replacing and reframing the front door is probably out of the budget. Unless I could get one the same width but with skinny sidelights on either side... Hi Yelena, welcome to GW! First of all, you should check the roots. As you suspect, there might be something going on in the pot causing leaf loss. I don't think there is a rule for how long a cutting should be, but I think they suggest shorter because a long vine with more leaves needs more nutrients and would die or wilt before new roots form in the soil. But you can chop the long vine into more pieces, a cutting is not necessarily the tip only. It is best to stick them straight into soil, because roots grown in water differ from the roots in soil. You can plant many together, I'd put about 5 in a 5 inch pot. But thats me. Eventually you would lop off the ends and stick them back in the pot to make it look bushy right? When repotting you can cut away 1/3 of the roots. Make sure you use a light, fast draining soil mix, even adding extra perlite to it. I don't grow a lipstick plant but it's supposedly not a difficult plant. Yours doesn't look that bad maybe it only needs some fresh soil and a haircut.
