I know this isn't what you asked for, but when I went to the dermatologist recently she gave me something called "Replenix" to try. I have tried retin-a products in the past but they were always too harsh for my skin so she recommended this. It is a retinol product which is milder than retin-a products but works like retin-a to make pores smaller and reduce sun damage and I believe it would probably eventually remove the spots you are talking about. It is not a prescription item - you can buy it on amazon and other places. There are various strengths - I started with 3x and have just ordered 6x and I think it goes up to 10x. I use a tinted moisturizer from Smashbox which I like and it has sun protection in it too I think, but it is lighter than a concealer. Good luck - I too am fair-skinned and beginning to pay for all the years when I was younger and lived in the sun, using baby oil mixed with iodine for a tan.

Homebound, There is a copper based product sold at any hardware/big box store, that when poured into the drain, will attach itself to any living roots and kill them. Generally, it doesn't harm the entire tree, just that portion associated with the root. Once done, the root can be cut loose with a cutter attached to a snake. This may or may not eliminate future roots from entering but will lengthen the need to re-attack the problem to 3-5 years or more. If the product is used on a regular basis, snaking would be pretty much eliminated. Also, start in the Home Depot rental section. You will see 2 prices on the rental equipment. One is to rent, the other is to buy. The buy price is 50% or more discount than a new one. About 6 years ago a friend needed a 100 foot snake to clear a drain. He was able to get one of the manual hand cranked reel types with all the attachments (included cutting blades) for $125.00. The new cost for it was $250.00. I went through that section myself and picked up a fantastic 3 speed motorized with reverse (roto rooter type) for 200 bucks that we use for the business. The new price for that one was over 500 bucks. They both came with full manuals, use instructions and a warranty. Of course, they have new ones if your friend would want to opt for one.

Manual snakes are very good at punching a small hole through a blockage in a 3 or 4 inch line from a toilet. A partial blockage they just skip over. Some rental houses have power augers (sorry, I was just drawing a blank on the full name). Keep in mind they are bulky, heavy, and take some finesse to use. Good ole' Roto Rooter has made their fortune off power augers. In some places even the plumbers refer to them. It is not a piece of equipment for the inexperienced. A buddy rented one and his friend lost half a thumb trying to 'help' him (luckily non-dominant hand). My buddy covered his medical bills (not small to clean up an amputation). .

Not sure what the list is - are those things youve tried? I guess the question would be just how deeply into the pores of the wood did the stain go - experimenting in an out of the way spot would be the best ay to answer. If its just sitting on the surface (like the cheap stuff I used on a porch several years ago) and already wearing off conceivably it could be easy to get off most of it but cedar shingles being what they are - rough textured, open pores - that stuff could have gotten down pretty deep and probably will never look like pristine new shingles. HOWEVER .... I think they could still look pretty fantastic sanded off even if theres bits of old colors still remaining deep in the wood. Weathered/distressed wood is very much a thing now - as you know if youve looked at siding or flooring lately!
