What Makes You Feel Beautiful?

Some friends and I have of late been discussing whether or not we feel beautiful and what makes us feel that way. I've found that it's hard to use that word in connection to myself. Some of the women I'm talking to don't ever feel beautiful, which is sad. I've been trying to pay attention to those moments and learn a little more about myself.

So I'm curious, when do you feel beautiful and what makes you feel that way?

Making love with my husband is number one
Dancing with my husband is next and in long away third place is freshly washed hair and the smell of my favorite soap.

This made me think of something I'd forgotten. A few years ago when I went to my usual market, they were playing elevator musak on the loudspeaker. Somebody had picked out really prime stuff from my younger days, and I remember seeing a few people shuffling to the beat in the isles behind their carts. When I got to the checkout, the bagger was sort of twisting and humming and I KNEW THE WORDS! I started singing, he joined in and we did a duet, lol. I could hear chuckles from the captive audience behind us, and the smiles in their eyes told me they were "that" close to joining in. They should have. It's what we would have called a Happening in the sixties.

Dirtygardener, Your Pond Branch Community that you left is exactly like it is here, same miles, I'm 7 driving miles from Floral City (lots closer as the crow flies) and 15 miles plus from everything else. All the neighbor land plots are 5, 10, 15, & 20 acres or more. There are a few grandfathered 2.5 acre lots, but very few. I bought my 10 acres back in the 70's thinking to retire here. We had a Doublewide MFG. Home put in here as most of the area is MFG. Homes. We also have a house in Apopka on a postage stamp lot which was my wife's daddy's home. She inherited it when he passed a few years back. There is no way I could live there in a HMO with no yard whatever and nosy neighbors. When I go to check up on the house they descend like mocking birds all squawking at the same time at my minimal maintenance. They just fuel my rage for HMO's. Amberroses, I'm finding 10 acres is a heck of a lot of land to manage for an old guy in his 70's. It seems to be taking forever to accomplish what I have in my mind for here. I cut a few trees and clean undergrowth each winter and push the jungle back a bit each year but it's taking longer than expected because I cannot work in the summer's heat. I haven't even started with floral plants as yet due to their maintenance would cut into my land clearing time. The only plants I've put in is my orchard trees as they need time to grow and fruit. Corar, I hear you on the economy keeping us limited on our endeavors. I wanted to build a real house here but settled for a MFG. Home because of the cost difference and I was able to build my barn with the savings. I also bought a leftover 2 year old unused FEMA trailer for very cheap from the Govt. and I use it as guest house for when the kids come to visit. I think I mentioned my sister-in-laws low ironwhen you mentioned how cold and sleepy you were? Her level was 4. Before Christmas she was in for a transfuion. She just had her second blood transfusion Friday. 2 units each time, she is on iron pills also. I am not sure what her problem is, some people according to my DB don't manufacture it enough? But she had gastric by pass also and I wondered if she is not getting or absorbing enough nutrients???? Don't cancel the appointment Stacy!! Please don't. I could kick my SIL's a$$!!!! I mean really. She was to the doc last spring for something else. She hates doctors, never goes in unless she is almost on her deathbed. I mean hates them and will never go in for anything! Which is why she gets so bad IMO. They told her last spring her iron was low, gave her pills, she said she didn't think she needed them!!!!!! Argggh stupid stupid stupid. She quit taking them and was feeling sleepy, tired, (she said coffee made her sleepy! can you imagine???) she had a hard time breathing,(your heart pumps the blood that carries oxygen don't forget)I am really not sure what all, I think her skin was very dry?(not positive about that last one)She was supposed to take the iron pills, go back in for more blood work and to see the doc and of course canceled the appt "cause she didn't need to go". Anyway she NEVER listens to her doctors and does what she wants, then it gets so bad she is in the hospital or something! Like I said I'd like to kick her butt! Don't make us come down there and kick yours! :)

Thanks @todd!! Hopefully the heat buildup won't be an issue. I called up Provia (such nice people) and after describing my set-up and the lack of direct sun, they said it shouldn't be an problem. For issue 2, the window that came was smaller than the exterior rough opening, which leads me to believe it could/should have been bigger. My general contractor had already framed the walls using the original windows as guides, so this smaller window throws everything off. Anyway, they are in now. Have you ever saw drywall put in at an angle, where I'd start it where the wall framing is and angle inward to meet the window frame, or is that a ridiculous thought? The caulking you use sounds more sensible. Alas, that ugly, gloppy white caulking with whatever crap blew by in the wind and stuck to it is in, so I guess I'm going to have to live with it. And the softness of the pine, oh if i knew this, I might have made different choices. The guys filled the gouges with putty, but of course you can still see them. Brand new windows and they are already looking cruddy. What a bummer this all is.

Some days it comes from within; but I have to admit that looking my best is key and the older I get , the more fussing I have to do...

I have to agree with dayenu, feeling loved and appreciated and close to someone helps with the feeling....

:) my husband gets that look in his eyes at the oddest times- when I'm up to my elbows in dishwater, or up to my knees in snow or mud, when I've got cobwebs in my hair- and it's so against what is 'supposed' to be attractive that we sat down and one day figured it out- he told me it was the look of triumph on my face. the effect of that's been strange- but good. now, my cure for the blahs is to go sink myself into something icky- and with this old house, there's plenty of that yet to do!

on my own- I'm at my best having just returned from a nature hike, or at the end of the first set when I go out to see a friend's band (or the dead, or half a dozen other acts) and have danced until I fall down.

I have been told on a few occaisions, that I am beautiful, on the inside....:) I was a very unattractive teenager. I think that that imagine of yourself that you form in your adolescent years stays with you...maybe forever....although I have been considered attractive as an adult, I still can't shake the "ugly" self-image....I don't think I'll ever be able to look in the mirror and see what's really there...it's always going to be influenced by other factors.....Sorry for the weird musings:))) I think what made me feel beautiful, lately, was the company Christmas party:))) I bought a beautiful outfit, got a great haircut, did my hair and make-up (something I never do when I go to work:)it was great to have my husband beaming and get looks like "you clean up pretty good!" from my (mostly male ) coworkers. That was fun. That said, when my husband (whom I have been with for 20 years) gets that look in his eyes.....(But I still chalk it up to the fact that I'm a good Mom and I can cook)....That's got to be the best feeling in the world! I like to get dressed up, make-up and all, just for him and have a night on the town.....

Being flirted with(tastefully).

Being complimented on my smile or my sense of humor or my brains.

Wearing my favorite perfume.

Snuggling next to my husband.

When my 11 year old grandaughter (who has the most beautiful long, luxurious, wavy blond hair) runs her fingers through my thin, curly, short, brown/gray hair and says "oh, I love your hair, I wish I had your hair".

Folks, ever since I gained an extra twenty pounds nothing makes me feel beautiful. My husband shows he loves me in a million ways, but a few extra pounds ruins it all and I can't seem to loose any of it. Of course 28 cortisone shots didn't help!
