Garnier Nutrisse haircolor - choosing darker shade

Hello! Hoping someone can help me as I am clueless!

I have been using Garnier Nutrisse #82 - Champagne Blonde for a few years with GREAT results. I don't know what tone it is, ash, golden, natural, neutral? I tried researching it with no success. I don't know how to tell if any of the colors are ash, golden unless they say it on the box, which most don't.

For winter, I would like to go a little bit darker. I've tried several over the past two years and I seem to either come out too red or too green. I am dying my hair about 1x month or so.

#82 - Champagne Blonde - Great, for summer.

#80 - Medium Natural Blonde (Butternut) at some point was too reddish for me

#72 - Dark Beige Blonde (Sweet Latte), just tried for the 1st time yesterday... I'm seeing green.

#70 - Dark Natural Blonde (almond Creme)... can't remember, I think this was too reddish.

Again, I don't know what TONE #82 Champagne Blonde is but I like it... and I just want a darker version of it.

The champagne blond should be a neutral
Medium natural blond is a golden
and the Dark beige is ash
Sounds like your hair is probably also porous due to the monthly colorings. That will cause it to "grab" the color. I thought the Garnier Nutrisse colors were a permanent hair color...? If they are and you want to color monthly why not try temporary rinses? They will not be so damaging to your hair. It just scares me because I've seen women that color their hair so often that is breaks off and gets thin. Are you using any deep conditioners?
I don't know why you are coloring but I hightlight mine myself to blend in my grey and it works-looks natural and I just touch up my root so my hair doesn't get damaged.

i always thought the champagne blondes were a really light ashy blond----with no golden tones at all.... i have tended to find the garnier colors to all tint more golden than the loreal colors.... how about trying the preference light ash blond???? that might be more along the lines of what you're looking for? i'm no expert, but have colored my hair for quite a few years now and have tried many colors!

Hi Lydia, Please don't try and fix your hair before contacting the hotline for the product you used. They may be able to help you through your dilema. It is very normal to get the results you have on your level(color) of hair. If you put the same color on it it MAY pull a little bit more of the orange out, or it may make it worse. I have seen very few home blondes that look natural. Unless you look good in very warm tones I would avoid it, or color and get weaves over the color for dimension. In my opinion it is best to leave blondes to the pros unless you are naturally very blonde to begin with. If you are trying to cover gray, and using a permanant haircolor try to stay within a shade or two of your natural haircolor, rather than trying to be a light blonde. Your results will look more natural that way. The problem most people have when they color their own hair, blonde in particular; is that the natural hair pigment of your level is a red or red/orange, and that is why you get an orange or brassy look. As the permanant color lifts it exposes those underlying pigments. Another option if it isn't too orange: Have some foil highlights added, a bleach will cut through the orange. If the other color isn't going to look good with your current color a semi color can be added inbetween the foils to tone the orange down. A hairdresser would have to use foil or comparable weave technique to do the latter, not use a cap. Hope that helps, I'll check back and see how it's going.

I know... I usually get my color (and hi-lights) done at a salon... I just thought maybe boxed hair color had improved a bit since I last used it. It seems like I hear of advertisements of boxed color with hi-lights but I never really heard of specific reviews to know which, if any, worked. I do use the root touch up between salon visits and I like that. It's just the last time I colored out of a box --It was some grey coverage one and it fried my hair. I'm skeptical to try boxed color again but I just don't have the time to always fit in a scheduled appointment.

Thank you, again everyone. alwaysonestep, I will look into at home touch ups with semi-permanent color for sure. What you describe about the white showing two days later is exactly what I fear. lobby68, yup, I've been spoiled all these years. I'll be making up for it with monthly salon visits now. 4kids, it sounds like you have a great plan for keeping your hair looking good. It's great to have thick hair. tina, thank you for the tip about the glaze and getting various shades of highlights, that makes a lot of sense. And yes, I think it may be difficult to give me lowlights ;-) patl8, anything is better than having to sit in a salon chair more than once a month. I simply don't have the patience for that anymore. Thank you for the touch-up tips. lukkiirish, I really appreciate the pictures and the explanation about how the highlights/lowlights work. My hair gets red highlights naturally, so I imagine that is what will work best. whatsayyou, I am intrigued at the thought of DIY hair because I am traveling a lot these days for various crazy reasons, so that is one of the things worrying me about needing to be in a salon so often. There will come a day when I stop coloring my hair, but that day is not here! I am not old enough for what I fear is my natural color. I think it may be white. My grandmother and her sister's hair was white as long as I can remember. They didn't really gray - they pretty much went to white. My sister went gray a couple of years ago and she is 3 years younger than me. I think her hair is probably grayer than mine and still has some dark in it. But still, there have been a few times when people who don't know the both of us, think SHE is the older sister. My hair is dark brown. It's been professionally colored, I think, 3 times. All disasters. My hair is evidently porous and you CANNOT use the dark brown color I used to have on my hair. Every time I've had it done, it's been shoe polish BLACK. I have colored my own hair with box color for years. My hairdresser can't believe it and says it looks better than she could do. I do occasionally have it highlighted, but because I use dark blond color on my hair, I can even color myself with highlights. Mt. Nutrisse is a good one. It has an oil additive which makes my hair feel great and lots of shine (which dark hair needs). I have used a gloss when my hair color has looked a bit faded but don't routinely use one. I only color my roots and I will use almond oil or a deep conditioner (on dry hair) on the ends of my hair to keep color from grabbing. I massage the color into the whole head of hair the last 5 - 10 minutes, usually not leaving it on a full 10 minutes. Good luck!

Can you recommend a temporary rinse brand ? My hair is mousy brown/dirty blonde, with the front mostly grey. I also used to have it highlighted ( with lowlights), but stopped due to expense.

Clairol's Natural Instincts are semi-permanent rinses. Should last a few weeks.

Clarion Natural Instincts permanently colored my hair and,it has to grow out the same as a permanent color. Porus hair will grab that color and will never let go until you cut it off. Bot use Clariol Natural Instincts on potus , damaged hair. You are no better off.
