Members Mark grill - warming rack

Just bought the Y0101XC model from Sam's Club last night, and I really appreciate the formum member's useful comments re: building and using this great-looking grill.

I have a few questions:

Has anyone come up with a good solution for a (preferrably) stainless steel, full-width, warming rack to fit on the top of the pan, just in front of the I/R burner?

Looking at the accessories list printed by Grand Hall, one is not listed - I was wondering if one from another manufacturer had been found to work?

Has anyone had experience with the warming rack which fits in the top of the cover? Good \ bad? Awkward?

Any comments regarding how good\bad the Griddle and covered Cooking Pans which are offered as accessories are?

AZMark,

I purchased the lid mounted warming rack thinking I would get a lot of use out of it...However, I've found I rarely use it. The grill itself has so much space that I just keep one of the burners low or off to keep foods warm.

As for a warming rack that extends the full length of the grill...that would probably be better than the lid mounted one, but again, in my opinion, not really necessary.

I just purchased the grill last weekend and spoke to Grand Hall today about the possibility of buying a ss warming rack. She said one will be available in November, just like the rack on Sam's $1500. model grill. She wasn't sure what the price was going to be.

Cameron, The weather cooperated (in the 50's) so yesterday we forged ahead with the plan to grill the turkey. Following your directions to the tee (except I added 1/2 lemon in the cavity of the bird) we attempted our first Christmas turkey on the grill. I placed the turkey breast side down and cooked it that way for the first hour or so. DH then turned the bird so the other side could brown and crisp up. It was FANTASTIC!!! So moist and tender. I really liked the added bonus of having the oven free for all the other goodies I was fixing. We had the camera out so I told DH I had to take a picture so Cameron could see how great the turkey came out (actually 2 pictures, lol). Thank you so much for posting your recipe Vikki

The larger MM grill does look very nice. Some of the parts (rotisserie motor, cover handle, side burner) look identical to those on the Virco. I like the slide out tray for the propane tank, very nice. However, I've decided to place the Virco in a spot where there is not even room enough for the Virco's side shelf. So the MM grill would be too big for my space. Plus it's almost twice the price of the Virco. Still, all three grills look like very good buys.

Well you guys and gals almost had me hooked on a Virco... That clasic is one awesome looking grill... I couldn't really afford that much, even though that is a good value for that type of grill... The Mark VIII was going to be my choice, due ot it's scaled back price... Even so... in the end I choose a Great Outdoors grill for $300, normaly priced at $400... The MV7 would have cost me $460 or so... pushing the limits of my budget... If I had been able to actuall see a Virco in person I may have stuck with the idea of buying one... I'm surprized they are not selling the Virco grills in places like Lowes, Home Depot, and Menard's yet... They'd probably sell like hot cakes... Anyways... thanks for all you who commented on your grills, it was extreemly helpfull in my quest for finding a quality grill at a good price... Back to your Virco talk now...

I have cooked on all three and the TEK IR is the only gas grill that cooks as well as charcoal. It's advantages over charcoal are that it is quick to set up, easy to clean up and does an excellent job of creating the charcoal taste. As many here know, the flavor is created by the smoke from the fat striking the hot surface be it charcoal or something else. The higher the IR energy (from gas or charcoal) and the less the flame, the more smoke generated rather than being turned into additional flame. The TEK creates a great deal of smoke because the IR glass sits between the flame and the dripping grease. On older style IR burners there is still an open flame to ignite the grease drippings reducing the amount of smoke to add flavor. With charcoal, once the embers are glowing red, it is emitting a lot of IR and much less to no flame and hence produces a lot of smoke and flavor. I have owned the FireMagic and I would not purchase another. The burners are cast SS but they still do rust over time and the flavor grills wear out too. They are very hard to clean and the heat was not anywhere near as good as the advertisements. If you are the type that never clean a grill and don't mind a gritty looking grill it may not matter. I am the type that wants it to look clean and inviting each time and the self cleaning feature along with the dishwasher removal panels makes the TEK a breeze to clean and keep looking nice. For me that was worth a lot. The more conventional grills like the Firemagic, even with their ceramic infrared burner are not even a close match.

I just bought a $599 grill from Sam's yesterday. The instructions talk about a "secondary cooking rack" in a few places. I didn't get any rack like this with my "pre-built" grill. Should I have? Do I need to go back to Sam's and have them find a missing rack??

I don't think that you are missing anything. I purchased the Member's Mark $599 grill over a year ago and it did not come with a secondary warming rack. As far as I know it still doesn't have it as standard equipment. I think the reason they don't include it is becuase of the rotissere burner location. However, as TerryArn pointed out they may offer one optionally if you call them they may be able to get you more info. Good luck.

I agree with spdac - I don't believe that MM provide one from the factory. My grill did not come with ANY kind of warming rack, though I am pleased to read in TerryArn's posting that Grand Hall may offer one in November.

Hmmm - think I'd better go grill something....

Hi-I have it from grand hall-the manufacturer of members mark grill-the y0101xc does not come with a secondary cooking rack-there is a full length cooking rack for 16.95 in the accessory flyer.Its more like a swinging shelf though great for french bread or fish.Its porcelin coated so it wipes clean.Call 1-800-770-9769 to order.
