I love it! Honestly, I think all of these things are good and usefull. It is just human nature to want to identify with a lifestyle that seems cool and exciting, but sometimes it just is not who we are and the outdoor kitchen, or the hot tub, or the fire pit, or the treadmill never really got used the way we had dreamed they wpould. BUT, some people actually live lifestyles where these things are used regularly. Some people, maybe only a few, will actually change their lifestyles because of these things. Our Deviant-deziner can be inspired by anything. Its all how you look at it. .... I just might be inspired to get me one of them portable fire pits now.

I used to live in Phoenix and I too would want a pond! Shade is going to be your first important issue. If you can keep the sun from hitting the pond with its full force you should be ok to use the EPDM. Depth is also a top factor in keeping it cool or you will be serving fish for dinner. You may have heard the old joke there about frying an egg on the sidewalk? Well it's TRUE, I've done it. Limit the rocks to the least amount possible. They hold the heat all through the night so you don't want a bunch of them around the pond. If you can avoid placing the pond by any cement fences or patios that would be best. I know Phoenix has a penchant for 6ft block fences and those babies get hot. There are ways of hiding the liner with plants or even grass, though grass is a nightmare in it's own right. You can use a layer of house insulation (the pink stuff) lay it over the liner edge, don't let it touch the ouside dirt area, let it instead reach into the pond a bit so it will whick water. It will syphon off water for the plants but not leak into the yard. Just make sure you end it at the edge of the liner. (the visible pink will be replaced by a nice algae green) Then layer soil ontop of that and plant in it. You will want to use something as a break to keep the dirt out of the pond. I use branches and build up a wall or well with the insulation before putting the dirt on. Of course you could use whatever you liked. You can even use something other than dirt for the planting medium. I included a few pics so you can see some of these ideas. This is how the insulation looks as I start and before I add dirt. I add a thick barrier of the insulation and rock or whatever to hold it from drifting into the pond. After awhile the roots take over and it isn't a problem. These little green tufts are planted ontop of the liner itself in the streams. I used the black filter stuff as the first layer so the water flow is not obstructed, then the insulation, soil then plants. This is a completed covering of the liner edge. The top portion of the liner is just above those little horizontal branches. Below them it blends into a little bog pocket. Totally blended in. Just some ideas on how I handled liner issues while removing rocks. I am working on cutting down the rocks. I hope some of this was helpful to you. And congratulations on your new home! LeSan

I'm happy with my Weber Summit Silver bought about 6 years ago. This model has 4 burners arranged left-to-right, by the way. Performance is good - my only gripe is that the separate side burner to the right of the grill isn't very adjustable (though I rarely need it for anything). While I could probably get choosey and find a more perfect grill, I would first look at Weber's higher-end because I'm thrilled with Weber's customer support. While performing way-overdue maintenance, I called them to order some replacement parts for items that had understandably worn out or corroded over time... They sent me replacements at no charge. No questions about warranty periods or anything like that. I called them intending to purchase parts, but it seemed they volunteered to replace them on the assumption that Weber products are designed to last forever. So I'm a loyal customer of Weber's. We live not far from the pacific ocean, the grill is outside, uncovered and facing the sea, and we use it 2-3 times a week year-round. No complaints.

Well I'm NOT a blue person. Indoors I have NO blue. My husband doesn't understand this. I have no idea why I feel this way. Outdoors things are different! I have a blue/yellow/white garden bed which I love. Yes, delphineums, catananche, campanulas, baptisia and more, are mixed with trollius, coreopsis moonbeam, peony Claire de Lune and low growing white clematis and aquilegia. It is a big mix and wouldn't be any fun at all without the blue! There are loads of clematis that are purple or blue/purple, but also some very nice blues I think. You do get into the question of "what is blue?" My husband and I think this could well be a male/female issue! "Victoria Blue" Salvia is the closest thing. I use it a lot. It is such a heavy, long bloomer, and about one in twenty of them will survive winter here. It's a little too purple and doesn't look right as a "patriotic" design. I will probably tear out the red and white and keep the "blue" (purple) since it seems to like this desert heat. Someone mentioned black flowers, and I remembered seeing black pansies in the most recent Burpee catalog. They're a beautiful velvety black with a spot of yellow in the center. I like the blue flowers, rather than the blue foliage plants. And no, blue is NOT my favorite color - I have nothing blue in my home decor. I just like the uniqueness of the TRUE blue and my stubbornness to get people to stop calling it purple!!!!
