colored campfire

I was wondering if anyone has info on how to make a "colored campfire"? I've seen some type of copper flame in campfires and asked about it but didn't fully understand the procedure to make the cool looking flames. Any help out there?

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I found a link that appears to offer the "recipe" for different color torches and flames in ratios of ingredients.

Here is a link that might be useful: Colored flames and torches

We use a piece of copper tubing 1" about 12" long, insert a piece of old hose that has been cut to size and just throw it in the fire. Make sure you are done using the campfire for cooking that night. You can reuse the copper over and over. Very easy and makes great colors.

What is the purpose of the hose piece?
