I agree with GrillMeister. I bought my first Genesis 3000 when Weber first started making them in the 80s. I had a traditional Charbroil, and the aluminum castings corroded to where the whole thing turned white. Also, the "H" shaped pressed-steel burner corroded to where I had very little heat control. And the chrome wire grills lasted maybe a year. The engineer in me really liked the Genesis design with the pipes for burners, the flavorizer bars and the porcelain coated parts. I did the math, and if the Genesis only lasted up to its warranty, it was cheaper to own the Genesis than to buy Charbroils like the one I had. That Genesis lasted over 10 years. I'm now on my second Genesis; a 1000, which is about 8 years old or so. (I found I didn't use the external burner) I've replaced the bars and grates with stainless parts. And this past weekend, I replaced the rails that the bottom tray slides on. Weber sent those to me at no charge. If I were buying a new grill now, it would be a Silver C. I wouldn't spring for the Gold, cause the SS lid is not that big of a deal to me. I can replace the bars and grates in stainless if I need to down the line. I wouldn't spring for the Summit series, 'cause it's a lot more money for something that is not much more functional. It does look cool, though... The Silver Weber is a great cooking machine.

Java, Has the grill ever worked when attached to this stub out? If not, you might want to check (or have the plumber check) the connection of the gas line from the stub out to the main manifold. It's likely in the attic. If it's not the main connection, the quick-connect you are using SHOULD cause the gas to flow when seated and the house-mounted fittings SHOULD close when the quick-connect is undone. The Someone over on the plumbing board probably can answer your questions best since it seems like a plumbing or fitting issue of some kind and not one related to the grill itself. Michelle

Blowers are pretty much a motor , a fan blade and a (realatively) simple speed control. It's either constantly variable or a 3 speed variable set up. If you can dope out the wire hookups from the schematic any combo is possible. Now you'll run into support and warranty issues but for instance a BEST roof blower at 1500 cfm retails at $925 and their 1100 cfm inline blower goes for arounf $700 bucks. Fantech makes some nice inline blowers and they do not make exhaust hoods. So.......... I would not go the single popup route. It only has an effective capture area of 15 ". That is only going to cove half your top at best even with the pivot feature. I still stand by my rec that you'd be better off with the T'Dor/ Best/Wolf, Viking, ect... pop up splash than even if you have to have a gas grill. These things are way stylish and can work fairl good if the are placed accurately which you don't seem able or willing to do. One would have to pivot directly over the grill surface to be more effective that the other type. It's still only mildly better. Are you dead set on a gas grill? Weren't those J Airs elect??? Why not get an elect. combi, a normal full width pop up downdraft with a reasonable priced and powerful blower and whatever gas eyes you like? This should provide the type of cooking you seek at a reasonable price and still perform pretty good? Didn't make it to the office so can't give you gaggi $$$.

We went to a couple of barbeque places today and ending up buying the extra large Big Green Egg, and I think we will be very happy with it. Kevin thinks it will be great for parties, and now it will be even easier for us to cook for a crowd. Since we now have three charcoal grills, we can use separate grills for separate dishes which will make it easier for us to make multiple dishes at once, even if they require different temperatures. We also have the electric smoker, and I have to say that we get a more intense smoke flavor from that than we do from the charcoal - or at least it permeates the meat more. For smoking chilies, only the charcoal will do the job the way I want it. The BGE that we bought also has a pizza stone and can be used for grilling pizza - something that I've been wanting to do since first visiting the pizza making forum. We bought some outdoor lights for our pergola, and I think they will provide way more light than we required, but at least we can lower the wattage when we want to. I haven't bought anything for lighting the fountain yet because I want to have that installed by an electrician on an exterior wall of the house. I'm hoping to light much of the back yard that way and have it on a dimmer. I don't really want underwater lights in my fountain at this point but will talk with the electrician about that. I'm thinking that I will get my yard lit in stages and start off with getting some outdoor outlets installed at strategic points so that lights could be hooked up later. We went out for dinner this evening because I wanted sushi! We haven't assembled the Big Green Egg yet. Lars
