Gas Grill Conversion to Charcoal

| After years of convenient but less than thrilling tasting gas grilling, I'm ready to go back to charcoal. Call me crazy, but I'm looking forward to the charcoal rituals and the better food experience it provides. So, instead of putting my gas grill in the dump, can I just gut the burners out of the thing and use the lower grate to hold charcoal? Would there be sufficient combustion air? Any other users done this? The biggest pain will be cleaning the ashes I suppose.
Thanks all! |

| Sure. I know quite a few people who have done exactly this. |
