Barn Door for Bathroom, the "Sound" Factor

Anyone out there have a barn door on their bathroom? If you do, I'd love to hear about functionality.

Yep: I'm talking about the, ahem, "sound" factor.

We're in the midst of a remodel in a historic home. Our floor plan went wonky when the plumbing was revealed (we can't move a drain as intended). So now we've flipped the plan around...and we need to move our door. And because of placement, we can't use a swing in or out door any longer.

So: barn door or pocket door.

Because our historic home is over 100 years old, I'm concerned about "flexing." We've got a great contractor, but I think a barn door would be safer and easier to maintain. Also: I like them.

But we're concerned about use. It's our family bathroom, the main bathroom really. And privacy would be nice.

I gather we could make the door meet the jam on one side...but the other will have a slight gap.

I'd love to hear from folks who actually have one in place. We'll probably modify a historic 5 pocket door (i.e. have a solid core). But still...

Any advice?
Thanks!
