Glass Door For Bathtub Without Rail On Bottom

Hi! We can use some help with this next decision. We are having a difficult time finding a reasonably priced glass door for our shower over alcove tub (the Maax Rubix 60"x32"x18") that fits our "wish list":

- Plain, Clear Glass
- Either sliding or hinged door
- The full length of the tub (not a bath screen)
- Towel rack on one door (could live with it on 2 doors, but a lot we are finding have none)
- and most important: frameless with NO RAIL on the bottom to step over

Have you guys come across any good options that would work for us?

BTW, we have found plenty of custom examples that fit our parameters, but we are assuming that would be over our budget (we live in SF, so custom can be a lot more expensive than in other regions).

That's exactly what I am getting for my bathtub and it's supposedly going to be installed on Friday. Whether it stays with no rail though depends on whether it can be made watertight. If it can't be made watertight, they will install a very low metal rail. My DH has the same door in his shower and he needed the little rail to make the shower watertight. Here is a picture of it.

Here is something to consider. Your walls might not be perfectly straight so the shower door company might have to make a template to make the doors fit properly. Some off the shelf shower doors have a little bit of play in case your walls aren't plumb, but many do not and that is something to think about.

Yes, that's what I'm looking for, but over a tub! I'd love to also see pictures of your tub version once it's installed.

Good point about the walls not being perfectly straight. I'm fairly certain ours aren't. How do you know if a store bought door has a little give?

Glass doesn't bend/move unless it's heated to about 1100F

Roo, to get what jerzeegirl has you will need to go custom (also realistically what you are looking for as well), if you want that look and glass made for out of plumb walls.

How do you know if a store bought door has a little give?

It will say "Out-of-plumb adjustability" (or something to that effect) and it will tell you how much out of plumb it can be.

My bathtub door installer came with a wooden templater which he fiddled around with until he got it to exactly fit on my wall. I honestly didn't know that's how they did it but it definitely involved geometry!
