Talk to your plumber. There are associated costs and drawbacks with any system that doesn't rely on gravity.

We had the same system in our home in Michigan. The toilet and shower emptied into a pit and were pumped up to the septic tank. It was simple and worked perfectly. I had to change the pump once in a decade. It cost $80.00 and took a few hours.

Thanks for the input. Does the holding tank need to be near the bathroom? If not, I'm assuming the drain lines run under the concrete slab to the tank.

In our home, the tank was right outside the bathroom and the lines ran under the concrete to the tank.

The tank doesn't need to be near the bathroom. Keep in mind that when you lose electrical power, the pump won't work.

Often times you'll need a macerator some where in there. Some toilets like this Saniflo include the macerator as a part of the proprietary setup:

Many toilets like that have the waste outlet on the back, as many of these products are designed for being installed on concrete slabs.

Some people raise the floor up so a traditional toilet can be used. In that case the waste pipe can go under the platform and flow to a macerator installed in the wall behind the toilet. An example of that it this, another version from Saniflo:

The toilet flushes. The macerator grinds up the solids to a manageable size. Many of these units have sufficient head to pump the waste vertically above your house's existing outflow. From there properly sloped waste pipes and gravity will get it to your main septic run.

There are a few macerators that simply grind, they have very little head to pump the effluent vertically. When using that you'd need a separate sump can and pump to get things on their way.

Saniflo does make an all inclusive design that will pump toilet, sink, tub, and shower waste:

While it sounds nice to hide the macerator behind a wall, for "just in case" maintenance/accessibility I recommend having it in the room, right behind the toilet.
