4" Square Glossy White Tile ???

We are building a new home. The builder provides 4" square glossy white tile for the bathrooms and laundry room. I am upgrading the master bath for sure! I will use the square tile on the laundry room counters. I will be the only one who sees it. My question is for the secondary bathrooms. The cost of all the other upgrades in the house is already quite high. Appliances, cabinets, flooring, lighting and so on. I was thinking of using the square tile in the tub/showers, as I will have shower curtains to hide it. But, should I upgrade to a solid surface for the counter tops? They only offer granite, quartz or marble, pricing respectively. Are the 4" square glossy tiles as outdated as I am thinking? Or is the retro thing kicking in for this look? Old becoming new again as they say. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated :-)
