I have teak in my master bath. Been in about 15 years. Used a film finish on them. No issues. No stains or scratches. Still look as good as Day One.

Walnut will hold up fine. Treat all six sides of the slab the same. I do recommend film finishes. Durable. Moisture resistant. If you're gluing up several planks to make a large slab, consider grain, and allow for potential wood movement or the slab could rip itself apart.

I believe Sochi used walnut plank in her br remodel several years ago. I don't see her on this forum any more.

elisabeth, our cabinetmaker/carpenter is supplying the wood for the counter. We are still finalizing the design, but the hope is for it to be wall mounted so we don't have to use brackets. Our cab guy is coming over this week to measure to tell us if this is possible.
