Anyone seen this kind of white tile?

| Hey tile-loving folks,
I'm stuck, and hope you can help me. I'm looking for a white glossy tile that's no wider than 2", preferably around 12" long. The AO ice white color is perfect, but their tile comes only in a width more than I want (and cutting it wouldn't look right, since it would have regular ceramic tile edges on three sides and a cut side on the fourth). If anyone knows of any really nice pure white rectified porcelain (I don't want to use the thassos after all, given the cleaning issues), that would be fine too, as I could cut it without one edge standing out as different. The only thing is that all the "white" porcelains I've seen have been off-white, not that pure ceramic white.
Any leads most gratefully received :) |

There's a 2 x 12 London on the link. At the top left is a different nav link that takes you to the colors, which includes white. Perhaps this will lead somewhere.

Thanks, rococo -- I appreciate it. After pricing out the liner and the mosaic we wanted to run clear around the room, though, we have decided to do a very Portland thing and give in to my mosaic impulse: make the mosasic ourselves from Pratt & Larson seconds! I'm really excited about it and DD is too. We spent an hour yesterday picking out tile--it will be unique and local and very high end without the high-end prices :). The cashier there told us that some of the tiles I picked out (many are iridescents in light colors of blue, green, and warm white/light gold) were $75-$100 sf. We got them for $1/lb. DD has promised not to abandon me during the mesh mounting process, so it should be a really fun time to remember. We've got 31 linear feet of 9-1/4" wide to mount...getting a little bleary-eyed thinking about it already :)

Lucky you! I paid so much in freight for my backsplash tile I'd give anything to have that kind of source nearby (we get warehouse sales instead though). I really like the look of irridescent mosaics in bathrooms. I'm so wanting that light bronze but I chickened out on the baths when it came to our apartment remodel this summer -- just repainted. It looks 100% better but could be 200% with new tile. Hope you'll post pics so we can see. I love the P&L it's some of the nicest around.

Last night I couldn't sleep so I went into the workroom and organized all the tiles by size, shape, and color. It was oddly soothing. Is it a mosaic impulse or an OCD impulse? :) (mosaicists may have a bit of OCD, don't know, but at least we put it to good use :)) I also want to say that P&L is a *world* apart from the other Portland-based national tile name, iykwim...those AS shopgirls were as snooty to me as could possibly be -- if they could have controlled a lock on the front door, Madison-Avenue-style, I wouldn't have been buzzed in. At P&L: I called them yesterday because we hadn't gotten enough of a 1/2 x 8" pearly gold liner the day before, and I knew there were some left when we left pretty late in the day...the salesperson said "I *think* they're still here" and we rushed in from the suburbs to find that she had subsequently, without my asking, dug through the room and found the box I'd asked about and *set it aside* for me so my trip wouldn't be in vain. That would *never* have happened at AS. P&L has my undying gratitude :) Other side note/sign of the times: the salesperson said that the seconds room is doing better business some days, more revenue even despite the huge gap in price, than the main retail area. Both times we have been so far have been mildly Filenes-basement-like, the manicured ladies and rough-handed DIYers jockeying for tile in a demure, muted sort of way :). (There was also a box of amazing ocean-theme insets [fish, ocean plants], of handmade handcolored tile with the original prices, over $100/piece, going for $4/lb. Thank goodness I wasn't in the market for those or it would have been even more stressful.)

Hey flyleft, just wanted to say that what you're planning sounds really wonderful and unique and I can't wait to see it! Ivette

Ditto Ivette for me fly. I went with AS again as, 'tude aside they are most reliable and we had a certain window to finish (a whole different story), but the P&L is top stuff and if there's service with them seconds I say "power on."

Well, thanks, y'all! Means a lot when highly respected fellow long-timers cheer one on :)

Here's a sample of the surfaces we'll be using. I forgot to put the chrome light or fixtures in there, but they'll be Toto Nexus and the chrome lights are simple minka lavery linear two-light (etched glass) sconces. Please note that the American Olean lighter tile is *not* pink. At least not in our light. Do you think the light icy blue on the walls is too much or o.k.? I wanted a clean bright but not aggressive color that wouldn't fade to nothing in the skylight light.

Oh my goodness - that is a gorgeous sample palette! I can't wait to see the in-progress and finished pics! How I wish I had more time for the decision-making and sourcing on my own bathroom reno. Flyleft, you talked about enjoying the decision process in my thread on materials... but our bathroom reno was supposed to happen next year some time, after the kitchen, LR, Dr was finished... and we discovered a huge mold problem this summer from a burst pipe which necessitated gutting the bathroom right away. So it's all a rush, unfortunately. I'm also envious your DD is actually interested in being involved. Mine (just 13) is fairly resentful of house reno stuff, since DH and I started tearing the house apart 2 months after moving is and it's been one horrible surprise after the next, on a tight budget and mostly DIY-ing it after work! Anyway, I am looking forward to your progress...

Pretty tile and color scheme. Very successful and I think you'll be very happy with it. Has a just-right feel. I don't see icy light blue -- is that the 2 white (in my monitor) squares at the top?

Thanks, you all! rococo, yes, the RL "Beach water" is the sampled color up above. Maybe it would come across more clearly at the RL site--I tried to check it out earlier but it has a musical accompaniment--which drives me *crazy* if I can't find the off-button immediately--so I closed it before I coould find out. And thanks, stacey--hey, we have that in common--our DD's bath remodel was motivated by mold as well! lovely. It's been demo'd for a while, but we've just recently put together the $$ and made the priority to get it done, as we have two other bathrooms. My DD's 12 and has been suffering through serial remodeling since she was--oh--7. So again, we have that in common...funny...
