Wall Mounted Faucets & counter depth

On to the next decision. I was thinking I wanted wall mounted faucets to help keep the counter area easy to clean and because I think they look cool. I do realize that they are pricey. However, I do not like vessel sinks, and planned on undermount sinks. Now I'm looking at faucets and it seems like the reach of these faucets will require the sink to be mounted closer to the backsplash with a larger than normal area of counter in front of the sink. I have looked at pictures on Houzz and most did show the sink was setback further than normal.

This larger than normal setback seems like ii would be awkward for the user - meaning your would have to bend over farther. An option might be to make the vanity shallower. I was planning on 21" but thinking that 19" might actually work better. The loss of counter space shouyld not be an issue since I want to keep the counter clear anyway. And it would give me a little extra floor space which is kind of tight in that direction anyway. But the vanity will be 87" long so I have concerns about whether the 19" depth would look funny.

Thank you enduring! Great post, and made me more comfortable with the idea of an 18" depth. Actually, our vanity will be custom so we could really pick anything between 18 and 21 if we wanted.

You mentioned the height of the wall mounted faucets in one of the pics you posted, and I was wondering about that too. The sink I was considering is the Kohler Kelston which is very shallow - not even 5", so I definitley wouldn't want the faucet so high that it would cause splashing. I was thinking that we would do a 12" high backsplash and mount the faucets at 6" (vertically centered). Does that seem about right?

I haven't decided on faucets, but would likely go with something similar to the Delta shown in the link below.

An option? I once mounted a wall faucet on a floating shelf that was built into the backspash.

The shelf brought the faucet forward over the sink.

Watch the elevations/clearances if you have a hinged mirror over the sink.

Thanks mongoct - any chance you have a picture of that floating shelf?

My current plan is to go with the Robern uplift cabinet so clearances should not be an issue - BUT, if I cange my mind I will make sure to consider that.

In my soapstone sink, which is about 8-9" deep from the counter top, the faucet is about 3" above the counter. The sink is 18" square. It all works very well.

In my other bathroom sink, that has a deck mounted faucet, the opening of the spout is about 4" above the counter. The sink is about 6" deep and then another 1.25" counter on top.

I would probably go with around 4 or 5". What is the sink shape, how far will the faucet reach into the sink?

With the deck mounted version of your faucet, what is the elevation of the spout from the deck? That is probably where I would look to make my determination. The sink shape may influence the height as well.

I just looked up your Delta deck top version and it is 3-3/16" from spout to countertop.

The wall mount faucets normally have at least a couple of spout length options.

Kayakboy, my faucet had a variable spout, it rotates to the length you want within about 2 or 3 inches. My faucet is an Axor brand. It is a pretty cool system.
