rectangular or oval undermount?

| I am about to enter the world of bathroom renos!! I have found this forum very interesting and wish I had found it sooner. I have a feeling I will be here often!
My first instinct for a sink was a rectangular undermount. Now I'm having second thoughts and thinking I should go oval.... any thoughts?
Thanks |

| I'm going with oval because my tub is oval. If my tub were rectangular, I'd go with rectangular. No reason other than that! |

| I think the rectangular sinks look very cool. We finally chose an oval sink with a flat bottom, the Kohler Garamond. We stumbled upon it in a DAHL showroom and my DH thought it would be really functional for us because in our small master suite we may be washing up a "drinks" glass now and then (sort of like a wet bar sink) and the flat bottom is nice for setting down a glass. Plus, I like the looks of the Garamond and it is nice and wide. This is "stating the obvious", but think about both the look you want to achieve and how it will function and find the best for both. Good luck with your choice. |

| I think rectangular sinks tend to look more modern, and oval sinks more traditional -- but that's just one opinion. |

| I was torn but then found the Kohler Kelston undermount sink which incorporated both rectangular and oval elements. I picked up the short side shape of the sink in the faucets, lighting fixture, cabinet hardware, and towel rack.

| Thanks so much for your comments! Funny... my other choice was a flat bottomed oval!! Love the look of the Kelston!! Nice countertop too! |

| Our bath tub is rectangle with a shower combo and our sink is a freestanding oval. I don't think it matters which way you go, as long as you like what you're buying. I found great buys on sinks online and bath tubs. Much cheaper then our local stores. I know the url to the bath tub store but not the sink store. I'll have to look it up again. I think it's nice to have different designs in the bathroom to break things up. But I like contrast. |

| We went with the rectangular undermount, and couldn't be happier either! The only issue I've had is that I wish my bathroom faucet swiveled.. in order to aid rinsing the sink a little easier. This issue isn't the sinks fault though LOL! Our sink is American Standard, Studio. Hope you find what you are looking for!

| I have the Kohler Ladena and the Katherine. They are both rectangular sinks. In the Master, I have a rectangular tub. I like the nice clean lines of the rectangular sinks, but do consider it more of a contemporary look. |

| Rather than contemporary/traditional, to me the oval shape is more builder-looking, IMO. Rectangular or kinshasa's would be more custom. I've seen *very traditional* baths done with rectangular sinks. (little piggy back: Kinshasa, would you mind sharing more of that *gorgeous* bathroom, maybe in another thread? I'd love to see how you used the shape of the sink in other areas. And I *love* your counter. What is it? I've not seen glass counters with such large chunks in them before. Thanks so much if you are able/willing to do this) |

| I posted the finished bathroom photos on this thread: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/bath/msg0916054827897.html Don't know if that's a clickable link, but if not just search "kinshasa" and you'll find the thread. The countertop is Vetrazzo. I LOVE IT!!!!! I'm just about to go out of town but will add more information when I return. |
