toilet trip lever: brushed metal or porcelain?

I have a Kohler Santa Rosa toilet. Love it, except after only eight months months, the finish on the trip lever (polished chrome) has these tiny little rough spots on it. I've tried all sorts of cleaners, but it's almost as if the finish is damaged. I don't know what caused this.

Anyway, I want to replace it, and am wondering if I should go instead with brushed chrome, brushed nickel, or white (which I'm guessing is porcelain or ceramic). My sink and shower hardware are Delta Stainless, which most resembles the brushed nickel. The toilet and sink basin are white.

What do you think would work best, both aesthetically and durability-wise? I don't want a repeat of this finish problem.

I would send that photo to Kohler customer service. That is UNACCEPTABLE. That looks like a major flaw in the finish. I've had chrome kohler toilets for 40+ years and the trip levers NEVER looked like that...ever.

Yes, it is called "pitting" of the finish. I wouldn't expect that from a kohler, either.

I think they would replace, but if not, I sound see about brushed nickel.

I have Kohler's "Bancroft" fixtures in our small bath. The toilet lever matches them. Brushed nickel finish with white ceramic handle.

There are no cleaning issues at all.
