Moen Shower Escutcheons/Flange

I am in the process of having a bathroom remodeled. The tile guy is complete. The plumbing guy has come back to install the shower hardware.

The problem is that the Moen Escutcheon / flange to the shower valve controller is too large. The top of the Escutcheon / flange touches there bull-nose of the tile above it.

Question #1 - are all Moen Escutcheons/flanges 7 inches in diameter? I need one with ~6.75 inch diameter to fit.
Question #2 - What would you do about this if there are no Escutcheons/flanges less than 7 inches?

I really don't want to call the plumber back to rip out tile and move the valve down an inch.

Easiest low-impact solution would be to call Moen tech support. Have the valve number on hand, and have that photo ready to email to guy you talk to. Tech support should be able to tell you if there's another trim kit that will fit that valve.

Then there's the higher-impact solution. Taking a grinder to the tile or to the escutcheon.

As a third option, you can sometimes pad out the area behind the plate with a piece of material, but in my opinion that'd be a bit iffy because of the type of interference you're dealing with.
