Trouble with Schoolhouse sconce

Hello, dh started working on electric on our bath this weekend - historic 1928 bungalow. We started with an old 60s era medicine light combo.

Frst surprise was that there previously was a small, traditional medicine cabinet inset in the wall. It was all framed out. Of course the one I salvaged is larger. Second We did not expect to see the rats nest of a junction box right above the medicine cabinet, giving us very limited clearance.

The dimensions on the destination lighting schoolhouse sconce are in accurate. We should have been warned when the measurement said 8 6/8, not 8 3/4! Anyway the kit is about 10" in total, which won't allow the door to swing open.

Here are my thoughts.

Move med cabinet down which would be painfully low for anyone over 5'8" (not my problem, I am 5'5" and shrinking ;)

Mount schoolhouse fixture upside down - would that be terrible?

Move junction box up and risk dh leaving me

Switch to a different light fixture, feel free to make suggestions
