Thinking of installing lighting under the vanity as a part of our bathroom remodeling. Any thoughts, likes, dislikes would be appreiciated.

Under the vanity, as in the toe kick area? I just did that in both my bathroom remodels, along with similar lighting above the vanity cabinets -- and we love it. You can use it as a nightlight if you wish, or just to create an interesting feel at night or in the morning before/after actively using the facilities.

You don't need to mess with expensive LED lights or undercabinet lights -- you can just use simple rope lighting available inexpensively at Home Depot, Lowes or online. Although low lighting is had to capture in a picture, here's an attempt I made to give an idea of the lighting below as well as above our vanity:

(This makes the under-cabinet lights look brighter than they actually are, but if I exposed for the actual lighting level, it would be hard to make out the vanity.)

I installed a standard electrical receptacle in the wall just above and near the bottom of the cabinets, wired to a switch at the bathroom entry. The rope lights just plug into the receptacle. You can get them in a variety of lengths, and they hook together so you can create whatever length you need.

If you do this, here's one trick I discovered the hard way, which made my job a lot easier the second time: install the rope light clips under the cabinets before the cabinets are installed. You can tip the cabinets on their back and easily drill and screw the tiny plastic clips into the 5" toekick area before cabinets are installed. Doing this after the cabinets are installed means drilling and screwing with tiny screws up into the cabinet, with only about 5" of space to work in. Even with a small right-angle screwdriver, I had a hard time doing it with the cabinets in place in the first bathroom. In the second bathroom, it took a fraction of the time (and none of the cursing!) doing it before the cabinets were installed!

Here is a beautiful En-Suite bathroom here in New West (just outside Vancouver) the builder's designer (his wife) requested the under vanity lighting and it really makes a great statement in the room.

We have done only a few projects like this but think the look is outstanding.

This bathroom was designed and built by Cobbelstone Developments here in Vancouver. I think the condo only lasted three days on the market. No doubt the place looks amazing!

Jacobsy I really like how your lighting looks even across the cabinet and not having the spot light effect. I was planning on using the Ikea lights they are LED and are thin strips. It cost 50.00 for the pack, if I remember right. But I might switch due to your picture. Thanks for posting a photo.

Here is a look at an older project before I was turned on to LED lights. This light feature is my own design and I worked with the millworkers after we where shown a concept picture from the design firm.
