 o
Tile for ceiling of stall shower? Bill and others please

We are just starting the search for tile for a redo of our stall shower. I would like to do larger subway tiles for the walls- maybe 4x 12". Of course we have to do a smaller scale tile for the floor so we can angle the floor to the drain. I also want to do a four inch wide accent decoration on the wall. Since I think the larger subway would look funny on the ceiling, what size tile is best to use on the ceiling?
Should I use the same tile on the ceiling as the floor, if it is say 4x4 which might make three different sizes of tiles (because of the different accent) or should I use the same tile 1x1 perhaps on the ceiling, floor and accent? This would make only two sizes of tile. I am thinking of glass for the 1x1. Photos of a similar ceiling dilemma would be appreciated.

What about something like this if you want to blend different sizes together?

Bill, Thanks, I just cannot visualize all the different sizes that I would need if the wall is subway the ceiling either 4x4 or 1x1 with the decoration 1x1 most likely. Is that too many different sizes of tile in a small shower?

The 4x12s would look fine on the ceiling. You could also alter the pattern on the ceiling, a herringbone would look nice.

mongo (and Bill!), you are a genius. I was just pondering this very problem of an alcove tub/shower with large format subway running brick pattern and what to do on the ceiling since no matter what the ceiling tile would be at right angles to something -- this totally solves my problem. Thank you, thank you.
