Acrylic tub rim flexing

Hi Everyone,

I had a bathroom remodel just finished and in the new bathroom is a drop-in acrylic tub with a shower over it. I took my first shower in the new tub today and noticed something that concerned me. I placed my foot on on the wall side of the tub rim to wash it and noticed that the tub rim flexed down a very small amount, maybe 1/16 of an inch at most. When the rub rim flexes the grout at the bottom of the tile no longer meets the tub rim. So my questions are:

1. Is it normal for an acrylic tub rim to flex like this or should the decking under the tub prevent any flexing whatsoever? Our prior tub in the bathroom was cast iron so I've never owner an acrylic tub before?

2. To fix this would putting some flexible seal (like silicon caulk) in where the wall tile meets the tub OK or is the only proper fix to be sure the tub does not flex at all?

Thanks,
Greg
