Another ? on installing shower rod on tile

I read through the thread on installing a shower curtain rod on tile. I understand it well now, I think. Another question that I did not see answered--do I have to find the wall stud? I do, don't I? The tile will not be strong enough to hold the rod?

Sorry, I just don't know about these things and would appreciate help.

Hi hoovb,

I suspect you will be alright. Drywall is fairly sturdy, especially considering sheer weight (straight down) vs tensile wieght ('pulling' straight outward). The shower rod would be more interesting in pulling downward (like a picture frame).

If you also drilled through the tiles, they should be quite solidly placed on a mortar bed. As a comparison, Your towel bars in your bathroom are quite possibly just anchored through the drywall vs. studs and they can hold a good deal of weight. I do believe you will be alright as long as no one is using the shower curtain like itÃ¢ÂÂs Cirque du Soleil
