Medicine cabinet/ Mirror same size as sink base?

Is it totally wrong to get/make a medicine cabinet the same width as the top of the sink area?

I have a 30" vanity, a 31.5" sink and (currently) a 23" medicine cabinet (with a broken door). It's in a city bathroom that I would love more storage in. Also, we sometimes stand at the mirror at the same time & it'd be great to have it even the smallest bit wider.
I'd keep the lighting above it.

If it's wrong, why?

I'm contemplating making my own at this point (I can't find any 30" wide medicine cabinets & am actually thinking about a recessed cabinet that looks like surface mount for extra storage).

I think it would look just fine, and it sounds like you would really enjoy the features that it brings for you. Go for it!
