How to install marble threshold?

I ordered and received our carrara marble threshold (thanks for the advice johnmari) and I'm thinking I should be able to DIY this.

I know I have to undercut the door jamb (I think that's what it's called) and then do I just trowel on a bit of thinset and set it into place? Can I use premixed thinset here? There is no cement board under where it will go, only plywood.

NO PREMIXED THINSET, ESPECIALLY WITH MARBLE, AND ESPECIALLY NOT ON THE FLOOR!!!!!

You CAN undercut the door jamb, but it would look alot cleaner if you cut the threshold to the door jamb, and maybe just undercut the door stop, so you only have to make a straight cut. As for what to adhere the marble to the plywood, my recommendation would be Mapei's Kerabond thinset mixed with their Keralastic liquid latex additive, or Laticrete's 317 thinset mixed with their 333 liquid latex additive.

Thanks Bill, Yes sorry I meant the door stop not jamb.

Off to home depot to look for some thinset.

Getting very close to actually finishing this neverending bathroom.

Hey Bill if you're still out there, I found the Mapei products and have the threshold in - now I'm wondering about how to fill the gap between the marble and the tile. I'm guessing the colour matched caulk but just want to be sure.

Also wanted to tell you that when the GC came by to install the shower rod, he asked about the threshold. I told him I had the marble but hadn't bought the proper thinset yet. He says, and I quote "Oh, all you have to do is run a bead of silicone caulk in there and then push it into place. You don't have to go buying anything." Not sure whether to laugh or cry, but definately glad I decided to DIY it.

Either grout or caulking. Both will work just as well. Where the threshold hits the door frame, though, THAT you want to caulk.
