Not a bathroom story, but when we moved into a new house, I scoured the stores for outdoor garbage cans that blended with the color of the house, so I wouldn't mind so much having to look at them against the side of the garage. Couldn't see them from the house, but still, when I was outside, I liked that they were a little more decor friendly. Then my husband took a can of spray paint and free handed our house numbers on them so it looked as if someone had tagged them with graffiti. And there wasn't one direction they could be turned to not see the mess. I'm not really an anal person about stuff, but having gone to the effort to make something ugly look as nice as possible, it really rankled me.

My favorite is after you do something similar to that described by olychick and after your "scouring," you get that great comment, "oh isn't it lucky" that your garbage cans match your house or whatever it is you agonzed over. Yep. Luck. That's what it is.
