Old paint

Hi. I am new to this site but see there is a lot of experienced people on here so looking for a little help. I am trying to repaint my guest bathroom. My husband's ex painted it about 14 yrs ago and did a real lousy job of it. The existing paint is all cracked and starting to peel. Is this just old paint? How do I prepare the walls for repainting? Can I just use a good primer and then paint? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Does the bath have a vent fan? If not, put that high on the list of things to do.

If it's peeling ... scrape off the peeling parts. Scrape the whole wall to make sure you get it all. Paint peels from the bottom ... so you need to get down past the crappy job to a

Sand it lightly, then use a primer and then a finish paint that are meant for bathrooms.
