Kohler Expanse drain lines up with joist any advise?

Hi Everyone,

First let me say this is a great site and has been invaluable in planning and completing past projects. Thanks to everyone on this site!

I am in the middle of attempting to install a new Kohler Expanse tub (32") in an alcove 60" wide. My problem is that half of the drain lines up perfectly with a joist running long ways with the tub. The drain hole hits in right in the middle of the 10' span of the joist (so no notching) and I'd prefer not to box it out.

A 3/4" sub floor sits on top of the joist. To fit the drain under the tub I think I need around 2 1/2" My idea is to stack two sheets of 3/4" ply wood under the tub glued and screwed to the sub floor/joists. Then install the tub in mortar on the plywood. Is this a viable solution or is there some issue I am not foreseeing. The tub will sit a little higher but that should not be an issue for us getting in and out.

Hopefully some of you can share your experience from past projects. Thank you so much for the help!
