Yes, you can top polish as shown, but you'll invest more money in equipment and products than a professional will charge.That jug of MB 20 shown in the video is $80.00 plus shipping alone.

You'll need a practice piece of stone. One wrong move and you'll make big trouble in your top.

What happens if you clean the hard water marks off with vinegar?

I would try Barkeeper's Friend. It works well on lime deposits.

I tried white vinegar a little bit. It does not work.

My understanding is that acid will bring damage to granite, so I put vinegar on it for only a couple of seconds.

jerzeegirl suggested Barkeeper's friend, but I think it is still acid based.

So trying vinegar and Barkeeper's friend makes me scared.

Is my understanding correct?

You could make a white vinegar poultice and it's not going to return that stone to its former glory. Only diamonds will do it.

you can take a single edge razor blade and with the blade on it's side scrape off the white stuff... the granite might have lost it's shininess/polish, but you should definitely be able to scrape off all of the white deposits.

Your granite looks like Black Pearl or Uba Tuba. If so, then nothing mentioned above will harm it.

I wonder if this was granite that was sealed when it shouldn't have been. If so, that white stuff might be sealer that is sitting on the surface of the granite and reacting to getting wet all the time.
