is a glass surround worth it in this first floor bathroom?

Hi there,

We are in the midst of a major remodel, and we are trying to figure out if we should spend the extra for a glass half wall and door in our first floor bath. Our house will have three baths total, and the two upstairs baths (hall and master) will have shower curtains. However, our first floor bath will have a tiled stall shower with an entrance that is not visible from the main part of the room. This means that a decorative curtain or glass door would not really make an impact on the room. However, a half glass wall with a glass door would open the room up and also allow the tile to show through. This is something that can't easily be changed later, so we are trying to decide what to do: need to decide within a day or so!

I am attaching a photo of the lay-out of the room. I welcome any input. (This will function as the main bath for guests, and we will also use it as an alternate shower for our teen daughter, overnight guests, etc. My husband will also have knee surgery and might need to use this shower for a while as he recovers.)

In that bath, yes I would do a low pony wall with glass on top plus a glass door.

I don't think I would glass down to the floor next to the toilet, maybe a pony wall as high as the back of the toilet tank or vanity counter.

I agree completely with palimpsest. It would definitely open up the room and look very nice in my opinion.

Thank you for your input! I just asked our GC about it, and he said that we can't do it since the plumbing won't work out. If we put the shower head across from the door, it will be very hard to turn the shower on. We can't put it on the outside wall, so we are limited to the wall next to the toilet. He suggested keeping it as is and using a glass door instead of a curtain for a more "finished" look. Does this seem to make sense?

Thank you again! I did not realize our idea would not be feasible. :-(

As a followup, would it be possible to still put the shower plumbing on the toilet wall and offset it toward the left to allow the glass on the right?

If not, I agree that I would put a glass door in this case.

We have our shower head across from the door but the valve is on the side wall so we can turn it on without getting our heads wet. Could you make the pony wall high enough so the valve could be put on that side wall, perhaps at waist height? .
