Lift and turn drain

We just moved into a new home with a pop up drain in the tub. Our previous house had a simple lift and turn drain in the tub that I just loved. The pop up drain works so well at popping up that I have accidentally popped it up each time I have taken a bath and once it is popped up with water in the tub, it does not want to go back down!
Can this pop up drain be replaced with a lift and turn and is it easy to replace? My husband is very handy, but has never replaced a drain in the tub before. He's replaced lots of faucets.

I just asked my husband who is a carpenter and has done a lot of bathroom remodel. He has replaced them before and says it's not hard for most types of drains. I google'd it and there are youtube videos and DIY instructions out there.
