12x24 tiles on shower walls

I have chosed a 12x24 light travertine tile for my bathroom floors. The bathroom will only have a large glass shower, no tub. I am thinking of putting the same tile on the shower walls? Is it 12x24 too large for the shower walls?

Anyone have pictures of large tiles on their shower walls?

Not at all. I've used tiles as big as 24x24, and in my own bathtub I used 18x18's.

Thanks for the reply. I really wanted to run the same tile up the shower, however, I was worried the tile was too large. I'm glad to hear it's not.

Hi There,

12x24 is a very popular size and the style is only going bigger and bigger. I have seen tiles 24"x48" being installed in some nice condo development in NY.

I think if you are going with a travertine 12x24 on the wall then you should use a 1x1 or 2x2 or even a herringbone travetine mosaic on the floor of the shower. The shower floor will need a mosaic, because of the water pitch.

Here is a link that might be useful: travertine mosaics
