Thank you ladycfp! Actually yes I do! I don't even mind the time it takes to floss and brush with electric toothbrush in the morning anymore! I used to think that the 5 min. or so that it took was too long...not anymore.
One the wall to the left is a towel warmer and another towel bar.
I had such a hard time making decisions while I was doing it, but am so happy with the way it turned out.

Very classy! What a nice change from the "before" fixtures, especially the vanity. Everything you've done is subtle, but the total effect is beautiful.

Beautiful and serene! If you have time to post the details of what you used, it would be very helpful to those of us who like to copy!

Is that a mirrored sliding shower door in the "before" photo?

Thank you ann and marisany! I was looking for a simple yet elegant look. I love your descriptions of it...it sounds like I achieved my goal.
I will get a list together and post it later.

The before bathroom did have a mirrowed sliding door...I think I will be happier with the shower curtain though. No more track to clean!

I absolutely love your new bathroom! Thanks for posting all of the details! I have a few more questions as I am about to order a vanity and granite countertop. The vanity I am going to order is dark cherry. Is that what yours is? I love the look of your granite but I cannot seem to find the "coral springs" closeup on the internet. Do you have a closeup picture? Also, do you have a closeup of your tiles? I really like everything you selected and any more info/pictures you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

arse...the photo of the granite came out well, but not the other porcelan tile. If you do a google search for the name that I put on the list, I think you will find a much better photo of it.

The granite was cut from a left-over piece that I purchased.

I was going to get Cherry, but ended up with Alder. I was told that Cherry did not take a stain evenly and that you needed to get it lighter as it darkens with age. I am not sure why they told me this because I have a dark cherry dresser in my bedroom and it came dark and evenly colored & I don't think it got any darker. This looks very much like a dark cherry.
The contractor told me that it was a custom vanity so I said, I will take it all...so I have self closing drawers and doors, dove tail drawers, glazed & distressed wood and a divided top drawer. I will take more photos tomorrow and post them. Oh, and also a pull out drawer behind the doors.
I also had them put an outlet behind the doors. It is nice for my electric tooth brush and candles.
It is getting close to dinner time, so I will work on more photos tomorrow.
Thank you for your interest! Good luck with your bathroom. I found it so stressful to make decisions and am so pleased that now that it is finished, I feel they were the right ones for me.

Hi Amy...Please let us know what you decide on for your bathroom. I am glad to hear that I helped you make one decision anyway! I know, each decision feels like a major accomplishment!

Some things I love in the bathroom...toto toilet with soft close seat and lid, soaking tub, Kathryn Kohler sink
(shallow, but wide), 3 way shower head (massage, soft and normal)-handholdable.

Again, good luck with your bathroom...really it is like a birth to a new baby...painful while you are going through it and then all the memory of the pain disappear while you have it to enjoy!

THat hex mirror grabs me every time I open this thread :)

For DD's bath I'm going to look into the Jason just because you mentioned it. I've been having trouble finding a nice deep 60" tub--was going to go for the Kohler Devonshire--did you sit in that one, by any chance? If so, how would you compare them?

And what they might have meant about cherry not taking stain evenly is if they were to use both sap and heartwood...? Just a guess.

Flyleft...I love the hex mirror also. It is part of the Ginger Empire collection. I purchased all the ginger products on-line. It came so nice packaged. I also got the tilting mechanism which lets you tilt the mirror forward for a shorter person to view themselves.
There is a beveled mirror medicine cabinet on the wall on the right, with a mirrow inside the door and at the rear of the cab. also, so I feel like I have plenty of mirrors.

I did not sit in the Kohler tub, but what I really love about this Jason is that it is rectangular inside and allows you to really stretch out. I started out loving the oval shaped tubs, but found them not to be as roomy inside. I find this 32" plenty wide also. I was afraid that it would be too narrow, but it isn't, & I am not a very slim person. This one is not inexpensive, but another thing I liked about it is the shape of the back, where the back rests when you sit in it...it is very comfortable even without a head rest. The other tub I was looking at was the Archer, I think it was by Kohler.

Another suggestion...we put up grab bars and they are very helpful for especially getting up from a sitting position.

Hope this helps! I am happy to answer any questions...so ask away!

Margie, I ask the same question of everyone, but what are the dimensions of your bathroom and of the vanity? Don't let anyone use that space--it's way too pretty!

  • brugloverZ9
    Original Author

    eastgate...The bathroom is 5' X 8'...the vanity 48" long X 24" deep X 34" high

It is funny because we were supposed to have the Master bath that backs up to this bath done right after this one was finished. We decided due to finances to put it off until the fall. I realized that by doing this, I would get to be the only person using this bathroom for the next 6 months! Me and visitors...but not the only bathroom in the house. That was a big plus for putting off the work for me. Also it gives me time to make decisions for that bathroom before the work is started. Unlike this bathroom that I made my decisions after the work was started. It was very stressful this way!

    Thank-you for your nice comment!

So the width of your bathtub is 32 inches and the width of the vanity is 48 inches. That leaves only 16 inches for the toilet. Am I adding correctly? I'm interested because in the near future I'm re-doing two 5x8 bathrooms myself (it's my dream that my bathrooms look as good as yours).

    dlm...Thank you !

eastgate...Actually the bathroom is 116"...I guess that is 9.5 feet...my mistake. The tub, I also made a mistake on...it is 30" plus 4" for the tile surround. The vanity is 48", leaving 34" for the toilet. I think there is a code that says it has to be 16" from the center of the toilet to the vanity or tub.

I guess you could do almost the same thing with a smaller vanity and no tub surround.

annk...I wish I could tell you the name of the glass tile...I loved it to from the min. I saw it and changed all the other things to go with it!
I will have to check out the name of it on the left-over packaging or call the tile shop. The bag that the sample came with says GTR-223...I will go a google search to see if I can come up with anything...or check out the packaging tomorrow.
It was 100 degrees today in CA. so I don't want to get out of the AC to find it in the garage now!
    Thank you! Margie

brugloverz9--did you use the Hansgrohe handheld shower and slide bar? I'm looking at these and notice the hose is made of rubber or something and wondered how you liked everything. Your setup is exactly what we're thinking of using so it's nice to see how great everything looks. I've been doing some checking and it seems Hansgrohe is rated higher than the Moen fixtures we had originally thought about, but the cost is much better. Are you happy with your choices?

  • brugloverZ9

Yes, I am very happy with my choices of the Hansgrohe handheld shower and slide bar. To tell you the truth though, with the soaking tub, I have mostly been using the tub instead of the shower. I find it so relaxing to take a bath, even though I usually took showers before the bathroom remodel. The curved shower rod is a Moen and I was really pleased to see that the decorative plate on it exactly matches that of the handsgrohe.
Also I love the hansgrohe sink faucet and handles! Not sure if you were thinking of them or not.

Love the bathroom - you must be very happy with it. I am planning to get the Kathryn sink as well and people have tried to convince me to get a sink with a curved rather than flat bottom (I'm ignoring them so far!)- do you like the sink? Any regrets? Thanks from another Tile Fantastic shopper!

czoot...Thank you! Yes, I am very happy with it! I really, really like the Kathryn sink. When I use it, it feels like something really different from the norm. It feels special to me. Although it is fairly shallow, it is wide. No regrets on it at all.
BTW...are you in the San Jose, CA area too or are there other Tile Fantastics?

Lovely, Margie, really nicely put together. I love the sink also. We're also using Hansgrohe, but in the polished nickel finish.

How is the floor tile as far as slipperiness? I think we're using this one, but DH has some concern because of the glaze.

Cindy... I believe the tiles were really made to be floor tiles, as they have a little bit of a mattish look finish on them. It has not been an issue for me as I use a bath mat and have had no problem with them.
I believe that you can find a site that shows the slip resistance to tiles. Sorry, but I cannot remember what it is called.
I will try and find the link and post it. It may even be on the Porcelosa web-site!

Margie--I'm trying to get the Hansgrohe faucets and showerheads ordered ordered in ORB. Apparently Hansgrohe has discontinued a lot of their ORB pieces, but I've found almost everything I need at Faucet Depot. I just can't find a Hansgrohe tub drain. What did you use?

Isn't it odd that Hansgrohe wouldn't have a tub drain? I ordered everything tonight and just ordered a Moen drain. People here have said the colors are very much alike. I'm really excited for it to come in, but I have to be out of town next week so I'll have to wait to see it. Thanks for your help!

Yes, I do think that is strange and I wouldn't have even known that it wasn't a hansgrohe if you hadn't asked and I hadn't looked at the bill. The gal at the bathshop where I purchased them never mentioned it. I would have liked a choice if I had known. This one is big and clunky and is the one piece in all of the bathroom that I am not that happy with.
Let me know how you make out and I would love to see photos!
