News about EFI timer/light switch

Some disappointing news.....apparently the EFI timer/light switch that has been so highly recommended here has been discontinued! Fore those of you that aren't familiar with this neat product, it looks like a regular light switch, but leaves the fan running for a preset number of minutes (adjustable from 1-60 under the face plate) after the light is turned off.

I had this switch installed by my electrician a few months back--and loved it (well, as much as you can love a light switch/timer)--but during the near-final stages of my bathroom remodel, the switch quit working. When I contacted EFI to get a replacement, I got the news that the model has just been discontinued.

Darn! I really liked that switch. :(

Just thought I should share the news, in case any of you were planning on buying that switch for your bathrooms.

I didn't even know such a thing existed but I was just thinking yesterday that while I seriously know we have to have a timer on our fan, I really don't want it to look like the ones that are in hotels. It would grate on me.

So, are there any other options?

Leviton (a large US manufacturer) makes a great electronic fan timer switch. It has four preset durations, and you can choose which one to get (e.g. 5-10-20-30, 10-20-30-60, etc.) You just push the button for the amount of time you want and that's it. You can always turn it off quicker if you want. Most electrical supply houses carry them or you can order them online. Go to www.leviton.com and look under residential lighting controls for timer switches.

Do you mean this switch? Because I just ordered and received it from RE Williams two weeks ago.

sjt2900--that one is a little different, but the same basic concept. It looks like that one basically looks like a normal switch, which I prefer. Might be the answer for me--thanks!

We just installed this one a couple of weeks ago. Same idea as the Leviton. Love it! It's the Wattstopper by LeGrand.

klb 2000--I really like how that switch works. Up, fan and lights are on. Middle, fan and lights are off. Down, fan continues for a preset amount of time. I like that I have all that control with one switch. Good luck!

That one from RE Williams looks like the successor to the switch EFI sold. We have one from EFI, and while I like it, I wouldn't mind having that middle position of everything off. Sometimes the kids will hit the wrong switch, and then the fan is running for no reason and we can't turn it off right away. Also, we used to have the tub light and the fan on the same switch, but ended up moving the tub light to its own switch. For kid's baths, we want the light but no fan. So, even though I'll probably buy the one from RE Williams for our master bath remodel, I won't wire the fan with any of the lights.
