Marble slabs or panels. Same thing?

Posted by anne7 (My Page) on

Saw a home improvement show where they installed marble "panels" in a shower enclosure. Panels were @3/8" thick and came sliced like a loaf of bread. How do these compare with a true slab? Anyone have info/feedback?

RE: Marble slabs or panels. Same thing?

My understanding is that they are essentially the same thing, but a slab for countertop use is thicker -- at least 5/8" or 2 cm. You can imagine that a lighter weight panel would be better for a wall, but a counter needs to be thicker to support more weight since people tend to lean/sit on them.
