Help me decide: white carrera or beige travertine bathroom?

If anyone has experience/thoughts about this, I'd be grateful for your help!

I am having trouble deciding between two different looks for my master bathroom. Here are my goals: Great looking bathroom, easy to maintain and keep clean; won't look "dated" in the years to come. (I want to avoid buying today's equivalent of harvest gold or avocado appliances, and install something classic.)

Here are my two options:

1. Grey and white Carrera marble countertops, shower and tub surround, black slate floor or hardwood floor, white tub, toilet, etc., brushed nickel faucets.

2. Beige travertine marble floors and shower, granite countertops (OR wood floors with beige travertine countertops and showe), biscuit tub and toilet (perhaps white), brushed nickel faucets.

Does anyone have both types, and is one easier to keep looking great? Any other thoughts?

Both will have the same kind of upkeep. One thing I've seen alot of but can't understand is using the hardwood in a bathroom. Hardwood and water don't mix too well.

I think the determining factor will be your answer to the following question-- do you want a warm feel to the room (beige tones) or do you want more of a cool feel (carrara)?

I've done both, and either one can be breathtaking.

I think option one sounds lovely. It's a very classic look, especially with wood floors.

The only thong i'd change to keep either option from becoming dated is to use chrome fixtures instead of brushed nickle (the finish of the day now a days). Chrome has always been and will always be, in style, from victorian days on forward.

I'll throw another option in the mix...I have tan travertine in my master bath with chocolate cherry cabinets and a brown ceramic tile (ok it's crocodile skin but we're not counting) with white fixtures. It's a pretty classic looking room due to cabinet style. My counters are crema marble (soft tan marble).

In my son's bathroom we have travertine with nordic black antique qranite accents on the floor (baseboard molding) and in the tub surround pattern. His counters are granite in Aquerella (looks like black granite with tan rocks all over it). My take on a black and tan :) White fixtures with chrome because white and chrome is always classic.

You mentioned easy to maintain and in my opinion those materials are not easy to maintain. You can't clean them with harsh chemicals. As for the wood I agree with Bill and offer you a suggestion. Porcelanosa has a porceline tile that is a dead ringer for wood.

We have a wood-look porcelain in the kids/guest bath and everyone loves it.

It's a very neutral look. The size of the tiles makes it seem a little more casual than traditional, long-planked, real wood flooring.

btw-I DESPISE my brushed nickel faucets! They are very hard to keep clean-looking. if you wash your hands and leave any water on the handle, it dries to a filthy finish... like it hasn't been cleaned in weeks.

We have polished nickel faucets and fixtures - if they're not right next to chrome it's hard to tell the difference. They're a slightly deeper, warmer color, much richer looking in my opinion. My designer led me that way, and I'm so glad.

I can't imagine them ever looking dating either.
