just put in a new vanity with white marble sink and counter. problem is flush against back wall but uneven gap on side wall up tp 1/2 inch at front of countertop any suggestions how to tile and cover up gap. Would using a backerbord instead of tiling on wall directly help?

Can you get a solid piece of marble to help hide the gap?
You can find Marble Thresholds in the tile departments at HD or Lowes that might work.

Can you post a picture?

I'd definitely want to fill that space first as the gap is very large...it sounds like the wall is out of square. Not sure how you'd add backer board to square up the wall. But I'd want that done.
