Toilet alternatives?

Just when we thought we had one of our decisions out of the way, the toilet we specified is not available, at least not within a practical time frame. Our architect had specified the Toto Aquia dual flush toilet, which has gotten favorable comments here. But our contractor just told us that there is a 6 month back order on this model. This seems a bit odd (is this toilet really in such high demand?) but what are some good alternatives, either from Toto or from another manufacturer??? Or should we just tell them to order the Aquia anyway and hope it will arrive in 6 months or possibly less? (Our contractor estimates that the entire job--which includes other parts of the house--will be done in 4 months, although personally we're counting on 6 months.)

Real time and contractor time are different things in my experience. I did not pursue a custom order shower medallion that would have taken 6 weeks back in November when my bath remodel job was supposed to start any week. I ended up shopping for contractors all over again in January and the job finally began in March. At points along the way, I came close to ordering the thing, then events would have me believing again that I would not have enough time to receive it and it would hold the project up, so I went in another direction entirely with the design. In retrospect, I had ample time of course.

I would backorder the one you want, and have a Plan B model in mind to substitute for it if you are drawing close on time. I am betting you won't. FWIW, we love our Toto Drake.

I am happy to hear that you are considering the use of TOTO toilets in your new home. It is true that the TOTO Aquia Dual Flush toilet is on backorder from the factory. We are a TOTO Distributor in North Carolina and we are also waiting on the production of the toilets for our stock and customers. It seems like we had those in stock with no interest and then all of a sudden there has been a mad rush for them. The demand has shocked us and TOTO.

I would recommend that you get the toilets ordered if in deed you want the Aquia so that you can have 1st dibbs on them. Otherwise I would recommend any of the TOTO toilets as your back-up choice. Our architect says that this toilet really is that popular lately. We did find several websites that say they can deliver within days or weeks and our contractor is willing to order off the web rather than from their regular local supplier. Can anybody suggest any good online suppliers?

Lots of folks complain about Homeclick, most with good reason. That said, I made sure to only purchase things listed as 'in stock' when we did our remodel 2 years ago. I had zero problems. They list multiple colors of the Aquia as in stock for $440 including seat (and no shipping charge).
