Bathroom water barrier ????

One of the General Contractors for my bathroom project wrote :

  1. I install cement boards in the tub area on the three walls at 6' high. Above the tub and the rest of the room is all green mold resistant sheetrock. This is the industry standard. There is really no need for any additional water barrier behind the cement board or on top of it but if you want to upgrade that, you can. Its kind of a waste of your money. 2) I install tiles on wire & thin set on the floor. This has always been my standard installation process and I have NEVER had any bad issues.
He is refusing to even loot at fact of need for water proofing wall in my bathroom/shower kids combo ...
