floating floor?

I want to change the floor in our bathroom. Its currently small ceramic tiles, installed 1984 and looks so dated. But my husband doesn't want to tear it out, as its a lot of work to remove it. Would it make sense to install a vinyl or laminate floating floor over it? He feels that the floating floor would cheapen it, the ceramic is better left alone. But there are some nice floating floor options out there, and if we didn't like it, we could remove it without too much trouble. We put one in a rental we had, and it looked nice. But, a rental is a bit different than my own home. The bathroom is not large, and we are keeping the fixtures. The plan is, new floor and to paint (or strip/stain, can't make up my mind on that) the bath cabinets. Although this bathroom does have a tub, we use it mainly as a powder room, the tub is rarely used. Thoughts, please?
