very pretty. Sleek looking. I want to reach in and rub my hands over it! Love your arch. The tiling job looks perfect! Are you doing it or is Mango and Bill?

DH is doing the tilework, and while it's not quite perfect, it's pretty darn close, and much better than anyone else (with the possible exception of Bill and Mongo) would have been willing to do. I knew the tile layout would be a PITA, but couldn't imagine just how nasty it truly would be! The shower doorway is not at a 45 degree angle, so between that funny angle, the arched opening, and the different tile thicknesses, I'm lucky DH still loves me.

It really is when the tile goes in that you begin to see how wonderful it will look. That is wonderfully elegant but understated at the same time.

Looking forward to finished pix and am extremely jealous - my DH is wonderful but if I asked him to tile something, he'd look at me like I was crazy.

WOW! This feeling of peace just came over me when I looked at your photo. Is it because of the arched door, I wonder?! Your DH did a fantastic job with the tiling!

I think that looks just heavenly. I'll bet a shower in there on a sunny morning is certain to give you a head rush.

The design and detail took a great deal of planning, and you both should be very proud. I especially like the subtle blend of the different shades of tile color. Or is that the lighting? Wonderful job!

Thanks! The arch tiles (well, all of the green) are from Westminster Ceramics, their American Potters series. Sadly, I think the arch is now discontinued... (I heard a rumor it was going to be, so snapped them up even though we were months away from needing them.) As soon as I saw that arch in a showroom, I knew we HAD to use it somewhere, and since we are redoing 5 bathrooms... The field tile is your absolute basic Interceramic 6 x 6 and 4 x 4 wall tile in a color that just happens to harmonize perfectly. (It actually isn't just the lighting, Mommielady)

We're putting in the toilet and (knock on wood) sink today, shower (Hudson Reed exposed valve & riser) on Saturday or early next week. Pix to follow...

    Sweeby,

Just curious. How tall is your arched doorway, from top to bottom? It looks very tall.

I love archways. I have about 11 of them in my own house.

You and your man have done a wonderful job. I wish I had found that tile before you did!

I also like the lining up of the lines between the 4" diagonals and the 6" squares on the back wall of the shower.

An eye for design AND the ability to execute said design.

    Bravo!

    Mongo

Thought I'd post a quick review here for the company that supplied our frameless shower door.

After calling around to compare prices locally, I ended up buying from an eBay seller called 'TheShowerDoorSpecialist'. You'd think that living in a major city with a low cost of living that I'd be able to beat their price locally -- Not So. For a 1/4" thick frameless glass shower door, hinges and handles including shipping, they're selling on eBay for $435, which was very competitive. The quality appears to be quite good - same brand of hardware the expensive guys were selling - and the seller was excellent to work with. (They also sell thicker grades of glass, but for our small door, I didn't think it was necessary.)

I'd reccommend them highly to anyone looking for a frameless glass shower door and willing to install it themselves.

I've never thought about installing the frameless door ourselves. Please post the process/ results after your done.

OK, sweeby, time to 'fess up. Are you redoing this bathroom or the one on the other thread that you're designing? How many baths can one woman have anyway? ;-)

Well, we're doing a couple... (And about time! We've been living with ONE for 2 years!) This one's about done, then there's another one in the other bedroom that we'll be starting in about a month or so -- THEN the one on the other thread. I wouldn't even be worried about that one yet except we need to get the plans approved for permitting, and no one on the Decorating Forum liked the original version...

As far as installing a frameless door, it really wasn't hard. You do need to make sure the shower opening is plumb and square, and that there are no narrow and wide spots. Then you simply get the parts, attach the hinges to the glass, shim the door into place, and screw in the hinges. There really isn't much more to it - though it does have to be done accurately. The old 'measure twice, cut once' rule definitely applies. But it's definitely DIY'able.
