Custom vanity construction?

| I have a quick question re. custom vanity construction.
I'd like a vanity similar to this photo which integrates a slab backsplash into a shelf.
So...how is something like this made? Does the custom cabinet shop just make the wooden vanity and the shelf surround. Then a marble fabricator comes in to lay the counter slab and backsplash inset after the vanity is delivered? Or do I provide the marble, and the custom cabinetry shop handles the entire thing?
Just want to make sure what to ask/expect before bidding it out. Thanks!

The wooden part of the backsplash could be made with a recess that overlapped the stone backsplash; that way the stone could be off 1/8" and it would still be fine. The vanity and countertop would be created and installed the usual way; the stone backsplash glued to the wall with silicone caulk, and the wooden shelf slipped over it and attached by hidden keyhole fasteners, or a french cleat. Or have I seen it all wrong, and the light colored shelf and uprights are a gray-colored stone? I mean, the shelf bits are wood, right? Casey |

| You're seeing it correctly. All the light gray pieces are wood. The darker pieces are zinc which looks gorgeous, but I think I'll do something easier to obtain. So the cabinetmakers should make it in two pieces. Ahhh...never even thought of that. I wonder if you caulk between the wood uprights and the countertop. I'd guess so since it's a change of plane. |
