Absolutely!!! Lots of bathrooms use marble accents and white ceramic tile! It's pretty darn classic. You often see white subway tile with marble. Do a google image search and you'll find hundreds of examples. Here is my latest bathroom, with white ceramic and calacatta marble accent tile.

And raro, we were thinking of mixing white tiles with marble, or a faux marble porcelain. Saw the olean faux marble at lowes--definitely a contender.

I recently saw a Sarah's House episode with a master bath reno using glass tile (or at least I think it was glass) on the main wall and plain white large format tile on the other walls with an accent strip of the glass. I thought it looked fabulous.

What exactly is DH objecting to? The care/maintenance issue?

If you take into account the difference in material thickness it's fine, design/taste issues aside. Ceramic is sometimes thinner, often less than 1/4, glass can be thinner or as thick, stone is always thicker starting at 3/8", going to 1/2" thick. Thinner stuff has to be made flush to the thickest elements, by hook or crook.

Border/accent tile is White Thassos mosaic, niche is lined with White Thassos select (shelf is same), trim around the tub surround is same (instead of bullnose tile). Field tile is glossy white porcelain. They really do look great together (better than the pics).

I am bumping this....I'd like to break up the white subway tile in the shower with a small band going all the way around of marble mosaic. Will this work, given that the mosiac will be thicker than the subway? Is this the reason that I cant find any pics out there of something like this? I haven't researched this, but can I get subway in 3/8 thickness (w/o spending a ton!)?

Your best bet would be to define the thicker border by a relief tile (such as a pencil trim) on the top and bottom of the border. The trim piece sticks out further than both the wall tile and border tile, and you won't notice the difference in thickness of the two. It also gives the border more importance, and in my opinion makes it look more finished.
